Hi all, I recently brought my GSD puppy home, she was weaned on raw food and the owner said she was eating fine. But since bringing her home she hasn't eaten much. I ordered from DAF petfoods but honestly the food, chicken and tripe complete mince smells a little off. I've offered it to my other animals too, but none of which eat raw so I'm not sure if it's the food or the pup. I gave her chicken breast which she ate well with a tiny bit of chicken livers.
I don't want to keep making a fuss with her food and just want her to eat. I'm wondering if I should buy a new batch from elsewhere and see if it's just the food?? How smelly should raw food be ?!

Tripe reeks to high heaven - I feed it in the garden.

Didn't the breeder tell you which brand she was using and give you a diet sheet? ExcuseMe ha just weaned a litter on to raw so I'm sure she'll be along shortly

I'd put her onto bone-in chicken mince only for a few days and see how she goes. If she's OK on that, then you can gradually introduce different proteins - e.g. just a spoonful of tripe mixed in to see if she simply doesn't like it.

With 'just chicken' you should be better able to tell if it's not as fresh as it should be. DAF are probably not the most reliable or best quality raw meat so you could try a different supplier - having said that, it should be plenty good enough unless you have a fussy gourmet dog!

Yeah she said she used them before and the puppy was eating fine, she also said the pup has had tripe, chicken and beef, and to eventually get her on duck, venison etc. And gave me instructions in feeding times too.

I had another complete mince of duck that she really liked, but it hasn't given me time to slowly get her used to new food. Thanks I'm really thinking of feeding some of the more smelly foods outside now what a good idea, I was told to crate feed them by a lot of people ?

Thank you very much for this I think this is what I'll do, I think I will try a different supplier just for this one and see if she's any better, as I said in the reply to the other comment she wolfed down duck mince but it's not ideal as I don't want to upset her stomach too fast. It was a very odd smelling packet of chicken and tripe. even the feral cats turned it down ! Thanks again I will look at some recommended suppliers !

I buy from Honey's for Harri - absolute top quality meat of human grade and ethically raised. They do the complete minces and are incredibly helpful on the phone so you can ring them for advice. They offer a starter pack too so you can see if your pup likes the food before filling the freezer.

I do find that different suppliers meats are not all the same.
Complete mixes are quiet different to just a plain all meat or with bone. Your puppy may not be used to a "complete" mixture. It all depends on just exactly what brand they have been used to.
My puppies absolutely love "Bulmers" raw products. However, I reared them onto Natures Menu, as this was an easy product for most people to purchase
Don't try to over feed your puppy (thinking it needs a full tummy), offer small feeds and take it away if it's not eaten within 15 minutes and offer it again at the next feed time. Don't feed any treats at the moment!
Use a flat dish and make sure the puppy does not have a dog tag that jangles on the dish when feeding.
Our young puppies can have new meats introduced without any problem, there is no need to introduce it slowly.
You will not upset your young puppies tummy trying and offering different meats, but you may encourage him/her to be choosy or fussy.
