Puppy diarrhoea help

I just posted the day before yesterday asking about dry vs wet food and then our pup has diarrhoea. I’m not sure it’s to do with the food as he has had no drastic changes in his diet. His poo became softer and then yesterday became yellow and diarrhoea like. We read to keep him on a bland diet for a few days. Yesterday we gave him boiled rice with boiled egg at lunch time and then the rice with small amount of boiled chicken for his tea. How long should we let this go on before we seek advice from the vet?? Any advice on what to feed or what to do would be great. He’s still active...and wolfed the rice down yesterday so he does still have an appetite.

The main risk to puppies is dehydration so make sure he is drinking plenty. You could also try a probiotic like Prokolin (available at Pets at Home and similar). I'd probably try to see a vet tomorrow evening if its still a problem - I would have left it another day if it wasn't the weekend but out of hours is so expensive that I think it's better to go for late on Friday. You could always cancel the appointment if he is better tomorrow.

Sounds very sensible thanks. Is it normal for puppies or grown dogs to have diarrhoea from time to time?
Is the boiled rice ok to keep giving him?

....he hasn’t had a poo this morning yet so I’m keeping my fingers crossed when he does.

It is quite common in pups. The change of environment and routine, changes in food (just from weaning), exposure to new bugs - even a change of water can do it. Hopefully he will be better today. I would keep him on white food today, or if he is still loose keep going with it tomorrow.

Not so common in adults although like people there are some with chronic digestive problems.

As a side note, only dog lovers are so happy to discuss dog poo!

...just had a light brown poop but formed.....the dog obviously....not me I’d just like to point that out

As stated above in young dogs it's common. I like to call them excited poo's, the reason is my pup's poo is fine until we go out on a walk or day trip. In a new environment if dodsley has a poo it turns out to be on the soft side. From talking to others it seems to be pretty normal

An easy way to get him to drink plenty is to give him some of the water you boiled the chicken in.

Don't panic- many puppies have tummy upsets. It took while for our latest boy to settle on his current diet. Completely agree that so long as they're drinking it's ok. When my boy was having problems I fed white fish and mashed potato. Always did the trick.
