I have a female Staffordshire bill terrier. She came into season on the 20th February and I mated her the 1st March, they tied for approximately 10 minutes, after that the male wasn’t interested in mating again. I calculated it from the first day of mating which means she is around 65 days today but no signs of labour. She is only eating little bits of her food, still weeing and pooing fine. She started loosing bits of fluid yesterday, like a clear/white mucus but no other signs or labour except shaking and sleeping a lot. She has put weight on and her teats have got darker and bigger, plus her vulva has become enlarged.. Any ideas on what could be happening?!

Hmm, 63 days is about normal, but if she didn't conceive for a couple of days 65 could be within a normal range. The clear slime is quiet normal.
Has she been doing any scratching in corners or looking anywhere to make a nest at all ?
The shaking could be some part of very early stages and you may find she starts within a few hours. Are the puppies moving inside her today? Has she got a few puppies inside or could there be only one or two.
Bitches often reject their food when their within the last few hours of the pregnancy.
Is your household a quiet place or busy with people coming and going, has your girl got anywhere that she can go privately that she calls her own and can settle. Sometimes a bitch likes someone to sit with her quietly and give reassurance (without too much fuss).
A little more quiet time and some bedding that she can shred and make a mess of, may help her.
If you are sure that there have been no contractions or straining, then she is probably fine. Have you checked on her temperature.
As a guide only, Normal temperature is around 37.6 to 37.9, this drops within the last 24 hours.

Our Sika dropped to 37.1--37.0 the day she had her puppies.

If you are at all worried about her I would suggest that you contact your vet.

If I want to breed my dog I will do so, I don’t need the all clear from people like you that state rescues are full of unwanted staffies and if you take your time to look into this you’d realise majority of them can not be rehoused with children, so I’d appreciate it you kept your sly comments to yourself when you don’t know the ins and outs!

Thank you for this information, has helped a lot.. she hasn’t got me too worried just wanted abit of information. She just seems to be sleeping a lot.

Please people, play nice. It's important to recognise that there are very many dogs in rescues, and breeding more is a contentious subject, but whatever one thinks about breeding more dogs, someone should be able to ask for health advice without fear of criticism. What matters here is the health and wellbeing of the mother and pups.

I know people feel strongly on this issue so if anyone wants, feel free to start a new thread on the pros and cons of breeding.

Thank you, appreciate that. All I wanted was abit of information/advice.. not people preaching to me as if I’m doing wrong or making the world a worse place!
