What book(s) are you reading or listening to at the moment?

I've just started reading 'Circe' by Madeline Miller which is based on Greek myths. 'Stone Blind' by Natalie Haynes is really good as well if you like that sort of thing. And 'Piranesi' by Susanna Clarke if you like mysteries and fantasies and having your brain worked. I'm always looking for...

    Daily Puzzle Thread

I broke my 877 day Wordle streak while I was on Holiday as I forgot to do it 😭 I also do Metazooa every day (like an animal version of Wordle and you have to work the animal out by the taxonomic tree - Metazooa) which is great fun to find out what animals are closely related - or not! And my...

Speaking of what is happening in the Veterinarian business............

Definitely would need to re-mortgage the house!

Nice to "see" you here too! Izzy is such a cutie. Can't beat a scruffy terrierist!

Speaking of what is happening in the Veterinarian business............

I think if you have a good relationship with your vets then you do get some perks (I know it can be hard with all these chains). I'm lucky that my vet has still got a few vets from before they were taken over by a chain, and that because I'm a regular and have a scientific background I get a...

How many have dogs that never come off lead?

I think with recall it's not just about relationship and training - you can do your very best with both of these but you'll never change genetics. Some dogs are just much more inclined to listen to you than others. I constantly have to put in work with Fly (lurcher whose recall is hit and miss)...

Can we have a "defector" thread?

Hello! Another migrant from PF (jeez it's quiet over there now!) I was Sarah H - I have Fly the Lurcher and Bronte the Maligator. I lost my bestest girl Nooka last year and I'm still going through the grieving process. Especially as I'm now stuck with the 2 annoying boys 🤣

    Shower FOMO

Nooka used to head for the hills if she thought she might be getting a shower!

Need advice as we are worried

The only advice we can give is go and get a vet check. Only they can tell you what it is.

    Boarding kennels and dog daycare

I work in a boarding kennels and I would ALWAYS tell you to go and visit them and see how it works, the kennels, outdoor spaces, etc etc. Vaccines are mandatory due to the council licence rules. Remember as well that a kennel isn't going to be a home from home, it's a safe secure place where...

Most useless dog thing you've bought?

This is exactly what I was going to say too. None of them have ever touched it - I don't think they like that material. I had the opposite issue with the big expensive Yak cheese chews in that Fly decided he was going to try and eat the whole thing in 2 minutes flat. We don't buy those...

Whats the most useful thing you got for your dog?

I was on holiday and when I came back PF was like a ghost town so I had to do a forum jump! Good to "see" so many of the old guard here.

    We saw a new vet

@JoanneF glad you have a new vet that you have more confidence in. Although most of the vets round me are part of a chain of some sort or another there are some independents too, as well as some more farm centric vets, so I could have my pick! I have stuck with the vet I've been with for a...

Whats the most useful thing you got for your dog?

Mine are boring but apart from the usual harness and leads, their raised beds are really good. Bronte loves his crate too and sometimes you need to contain a Malinois so a big crate that he loves being in is a god send!
