I just got a really excited phone call from Krystal Lewis (Nabihah Whippets) who is up at Wodonga Kennel Club for the weekend and has cleaned up to say the least!!

Dog CC and BOB - Aust Ch. Nabihah Numero Oono (Coopy says "Way to go Daddy")

Res CC and RUBOB - Aust Ch. Nabihah Still the One (full younger brother of BOB winner)

Bitch CC - Ronndal Goldilocks (Imp NZ) - Snap's first CC (15 points) and well overdue!! It's about time!!

Res Bitch CC - Moonwind Rainbows

Uno then went on to win Best in Group!! And then Ace not to be outdone, won Best Open in Group!! (Poor Snap was knocked out by the Runner up in Group winner)

We went to the local show down here and Tia (Peperone Bitter Tears) won a huge 10 point best of breed LOL!! Not that I'm complaining as it all helps in edging her closer to her Aust Ch. title!! That news is not half as exciting as the above though!!

AWESOME JOB KRYSTAL!!

Congratulations Michelle and Tag!

What a lovely weekend for you! Here's to many more!

And well done to Krystal and Uno, Ace and Snap - that's not bad going either !

And not to forget lovely little Tia and her HUGE BOB! You shouldn't poke fun Elly - BOB is a BOB - they don't have to award it!

We went to Lockyer Valley in the heat. Dino was BOB and ABIG under Mrs P Carpenter. Jillie was RUBOB. Autumn got bitten by an ant and was 2nd/2. The first time my mother has entrusted her to me to take to a show whilst she stayed home - and looked what happens! Darcie was JOB.

On SUnday in the heat I chose to leave Dino and Jill in the van in front of the fan and concentrate on the two youngsters - Autumn got BOB and Darcie got JOB.

Our Laser continued on his winning way, being awarded Baby In Group all 3 days at Cooma and he won the 3-6 mths sweepstakes held on Saturday. He then won BABY IN SHOW on Sunday. I'll count them up but he's won several Baby In Groups and about 4 Baby In Show now, so we're thrilled. His mum, Clover, won the breed all 3 days and went Best In Group on Sunday.

For all those that have been nagging me, I finnaly took some pics of the boy. He's now 5 months.

And we miss Cooper. Come back soon!

Our Blue whelped 6 girls on Monday night but sadly, our vet found 2 clefts in the soft palete so now we are down to 4 lovely girls. Sadly, we lost a red and white and a silver and white. Haven't had a cleft in such a long time, I was a bit stunned. My vet (who has a PhD in peri and post natal mortality) said she sees clefts and other mid line faults in all breeds when the pregnancy has been in very hot weather in the first trimester, and was certainly hot! Personally I've always thought it was genetic based but it was an interesting observation and she's a 'breeder vet' so sees lots and lots of litters. Guess we'll find out next time we mate Blue. Our remaining 4 are strong and healthy and Blue is being a fabulous mother.

Cheers

Did anyone have any more results from the Spring Fair weekend? I haven't heard anything other than the specialty.

Interesting, something to think about. Although, the only cleft palate I ever had in the 40 years was in litter born in September. No heatwave there, but then again 1 cleft plate is hardly statistically significant. It would not hurt to take extra care with pregnant girls during heatwave.

Actually I remember vaguely something about increase in birth defects in babies born 6 months after heatwave. Wonder if cold countries would have then lower rates of these problems?

To be honest, I've always felt they were genetic, however, Electra has not produced any in 4 litters, other siblings of Blue have not produced them, so I don't really know. I had a disaster RR litter with tail defects and was told a similar thing about heat during early pregnancy.

An overseas whippet breeder I met a few years ago had a bitch that had produced a high number of clefts in one litter. She believed there had been a problem with a new brand of disinfectant she had used.

Someone else told me to give Folic Acid in the diet.

Anyway, what's done is done and sometimes I feel we'll never fully understand genetics and nature, so I'll concentrate the 4 healthy ones left.

Cheers

Thanks for those results Elly.

And for the info to ponder on clefts Toni, that is interesting.

BTW - lovely photos of Laser, handsome young man.

Very happy with Dino's win and Toni's comments on him and Darcie. She deliberated long and hard between Dino and Daffodil for BOB. And after she awarded Dino his class in group, she asked me who he was, and without thinking I simply answered "Dino" - Duh!!!! I can be so dopey! How embarrassing! When I finally got out his pedigree name she realised that she "knew" him! So now we have officially met. Thank you Toni - so glad you liked him.

And ... not whippets ... BUT ... Cassie got RESERVE IN SHOW last night with the lovely young Dante - Chinese Crested - Ch Vanitonia Too Hot To Handle (Imp UK) - over 760 dogs in the show. CONGRATS CASSIE AND DANTE!

Today at Castlemaine Kennel Club Ch Byerley Longines (Heath) went Best Exhibit in the Hound Group, not to be out done his son Byerley Diesel (Usain) went Best Baby Puppy in the Hound Group. This was a nice follow up for Usain to his Baby Puppy in Show at Wodonga Kennel Club two weeks ago.

To top this off Byerley Frenchconnection (Efcee) won her first Bitch Challenge from the Puppy Class! WOO HOO!!

Go Guys!!!!!! :)

Lancefield Kennel Club 28.12.2009

Judge Mrs D Addenbrooke (NZ)

Dog CC and BOB - Aust Ch. Peperone Elegantlywasted

Res Dog CC - Talkabout ??? (new puppy they are showing)

Bitch CC and RUBOB - Ozrhode Celtic Arrow

Res Bitch CC - Peperone Bitter Tears (I think Tia would have to hold the record of getting heaps of reserve ccs!!! Will we ever get her title!! LOL!!)

Chucky also went on to Group 2nd and Arrow (insert beautiful little bitch here!!) won Junior in Group!!

I wasn't entered at the other shows but I know that Tony Wills little bitch (Rosiel ???) from Ch Byerley Hilfiger won BOB at the first show and Ch. Talkabout Savanna Breeze was BOB at the second one. Last show in the Lancefield shows is today so if I hear who wins I'll post that too.

Hope that everyone had a good Christmas and that you all have a safe and happy New Year.

Cheers

Elly & the Peperone Kids

Hey Lana, it was mentioned to me the other night that your girl may have won Whippet Rising Star for 2009???? I know the points aren't final yet but it was the owner of No. 2 who mentioned it. Thought I'd get in early. Congratulations.

Happy New Year everyone :sorcerer:

Hope you saw it in just the way you wanted to. All the best for 2010 and look forward to seeing great results from all fellow K9ers. :D

CONGRATULATIONS LANA AND DARCIE!!!

We had our last show in Victoria for the year last night. I don't have a catalogue as I was partying interstate!! Anyway to cut a long stort short, Dad can't show dogs at the moment because of his asbestosis and a handler that I usually ask to assist was partying in sunny Queensland, so I asked 14 year old Jacqueline O'Riley who has samoyeds if she could meet dad at the ring and show the kids for me... well what a fabulous job she must have done!! I've received no less than 5 texts telling me I've been replaced and my assistance is no longer required!!

VCA New Years Eve Show

Judge: Mr J Bink (ACT)

Dog CC - Gr Ch. Taejaan One Step in Front - Darcy and Jen still showing the kids how its done at 9 years of age! A credit to Jen for keeping him in such good condition!

Res Dog CC - Ch. Peperone Elegantlywasted

Bitch CC & BOB - Peperone Bitter Tears - YAY TIA!! Finally craked a CC!! I think we only have just under 20 points to go now!

Res Bitch CC & RUBOB - Peperone Love n Kisses - (Someone actually thought this was Tia a couple of weeks ago! Might have to do a brace one day when I'm feeling brave!)

Tia went on to finish 2009 with BEST IN GROUP (Group 1st)!! And Tony Wills won MINOR PUPPY IN SHOW with his little bitch (if someone has the show name can they please let me know what it is??!!), and then Pepa won Junior in Group! So all in all it was a great night for the whippets!!

I believe another whippet elsewhere in the country may have received a group 2nd?? :- They might come on here before they start the next years topic which I believe has become a bit of a tradition maybe!!

Hey Elly - yes Dino was Reserve in Group in Brisbane last night - 88 dogs in the group. Very proud. Jillie was also challenge bitch. We faced some very stiff competition with the Shalique and Sherberghan dogs there, so I was extremely happy to get both CC's let alone a RIG with my bestest boy.

Big congrats to Miss Tia - what a clever girl and to Chucky and Pepa as well. Great night all round. You made a bit of a slip with Darcy's name though, he is Gr Ch Taejaan One Step Closer (not 'One Step in Front') Congrats to Jen with our "Daddy Darcy".

Toni! You've let the cat out of the bag LOL! :b I had had a call from Steve and Sue but wasn't game to say anything until we had an official word. But I guess if Jenna is sure that Summer is second then I guess Darcie will be first as I don't think anyone else could blitz her position unless they've been holding points back for the last month and put them all on now - which I have seen people do in the past. So I'm trying very hard not to be too excited just yet. But when we know for certain I will be singing to the hilltops. BTW - you were going to email me a picture of your "Star" (?Was that the one) that you said Darcie reminded you of?? Just thought I'd give you a little reminder - would love to see her.
