As the title suggests it's been a bad week for us. What started out as a visit to the vets to give the pup his 2nd vaccination and get some more medication for Regal led to quite a different outcome. About 18 months ago Regal was diagnosed with degeneration of the nerves in his back and had started to do off his legs, this is quite common in bigger dogs and the vet we saw at the time said he probably had about 2 months left, he gave us some medicine for him to make him more comfortable. After the visit to the vets he seemed to rally so I used the medicine sparingly cos i had no intention of going back with him any time soon. However in the last couple of months he had started to degenerate and his quality of life had gone downhill so I needed more medicine but because he hadn't been for a while he wanted to see him so we made an appointment for the same afternoon for him and Holly was also not well. Our vet is a really nice man who always advises us what is best for our dogs and we trust him very much. After he checked them over he said that really the best thing was to let them both go with dignity as they were rapidly going downhill, after much soul searching we agreed because we do not believe in keeping our dogs alive when their quality of life has gone. We were devastated and have still not realy come to terms with it but things improve a little each day. We find it's the silly little things that get to you the most.

The loss of these beloved dogs has left a huge hole in our lives.

Holly was probably the least known of ours, she was 13½, a lovely girl how generally liked her own space best. She was a feisty little girl who was not in any way frightened by our big dogs,in fact she could put them in their place  . She loved running and did quite well showing.

Regal was our Gentle Giant who was the best dog anyone could want as many of you will know he was a canine blood donor who helped save other dogs lives and we were so proud of him. We have his brother, son & grandson so his legacy lives on.

I'm so sorry you've lost two of your stunning dogs together, most be such a sad time for you

So Sorry to Hear your Sad News. Never easy losing one dog at a time so to lose two and especially a youngster must be devasting. I lost three last year but over a period of one year and that was bad enough.

Its the worst part of dog ownership to have to do, but if they are suffering and the quality of life is not there,

it is the kindest thing to do but never easy.

Aah Sonia, that's so sad, and to lose two at the same time.

My heart goes out to you and Ian, but you have all those years of wonderful memories and knowing that you gave them both a very good life.

Big hugs from me, Ian & Josie.

xx

I am so sorry for your sad loss xx

My thoughts are with you at this sad time. :(

Most of us know the pain of losing our canine friends but we have the assurance that they found their forever homes with us, and we have their memory to comfort us with. o:)

Hugs and love from

Hannah x

I am so sorry for your sad loss xx

I am so sorry to hear of your sad news :( :( It is the only bad thing about dog/pet ownership, having to say that final goodbye :huggles:

I am so sorry for your loss . They were beautiful dogs and obviously much loved :(

Sonia and Ian... to say goodbye to these two beautiful dogs must have been so very hard..I am so very sorry for you.

RIP Regal and Holly

Sorry to hear about your sad loss. It is never easy losing one, let along two at the same time. Best wishes at this sad time

I have to own up here guys and say i had a soft spot for Holly, she was a pleasure to have met. Lat year at Raby Castle was when i got to see her personality. She never ventured too far from you both, not because her old legs were weak but because she just adored you both and your friends in your club and wasnt too long in hobbling back to the fold. :(

Regal by name...Regal by nature. A mans dog and a true hero. Theres not too many blood donors around in the canine world and if there are theres not too many like that big fella !

Last year at Cardross Castle the pride you had in the lad was more than evident when we done the arena presentation...this year theres going to be a void where he wouldve been.

How brilliant that his legacy lives on.

Nuff said

It's not easy losing two dogs,I know I, lost two dogs in the space of a month back in 2001,and still miss them now.

Just remember the good times you had.
