A gorgeous little blue fawn KC reg'd 14 year old whippet needs a home- I saw this on preloved so thought I'd crosspost. Very sad situation, the lady has had him since a pup but can't look after him properly as well as her new baby. Anyone want/ know anyone who wants a nice quiet oldie to dote on in his twilight years?

Poor sod, the owner should be ashamed of herself.

Why cant you manage a baby and a dog, i wouldn't

think at 14 he needs to go far :(

I agree with Ann on this one, though of course I don't know all the facts - would seem more like someone either can't face the inevitable end with an old dog, or can't/ won't pay increasing vet fees. How could they do this after 14 years? :(

Perhaps if it's a toddler harrassing the dog there might be more understanding - but like Ann says, it's not like it needs lots of walking - I imagine she would walk quite nicely with a pram anyway. Poor thing.

I think that is shocking . As the owner of two oldies , one 13 and one 14 and two who died recently I know how undemanding they are . A short walk , a comfy bed and some nice food . They demand very little .

I don't know how anyone could rehome a dog they had for 14 years

:( Oh gawd I wish I hadn't seen that, I'm so tempted but I really can't take another at the moment.

Is anyone a member and can suggest the owner contact Oldies Club if she'd consider going via rescue? We have a waiting list so it wouldn't be an immediate solution but at least we could get him on the list.

I am a member and have contacted her and suggested this

I have written to her too.

Suggested she joins TWF and K9 (please don't give her a hard time if she does) and also The Oldies Club.

I have offered to take him too, but I think he would find my gang of youngsters just too much to live with :(

She lives in West Wales so quite near to Jakers on here .........

Doesn't she understand that at 14 years old, he would be happier staying with her and never going for another walk as long as he lives :( To uproot a dog of this age is cruel. My 14 year old gives me no trouble at all, she sleeps most of the day, and just loves her food. When we get the leads out to go for a walk, she goes into her bed - she doesn't want to come with us anymore. She is happy having a mooch around the garden. Maybe she doesn't understand what she is doing, and maybe she is suffering from post natal depression??? She will regret it if she lets this boy go - so sad :(

That's great, hopefully she will join up and there will be someone who can help, such a sweet looking dog

There is often a lot more to these situations than people advertise, so I'd always reserve judgement until I know the full facts. At least she's doing her best to find him a new home rather than a one-way trip to the vet which is the fate of a lot of older dogs when a baby arrives in the family :(

:( Poor old boy, what an awful situation. Perhaps there is more to this lady's problems though, as June rightly says, it could be Post-natal depression or perhaps her baby has health problems? (my son spent much of the first year of his life in and out of hospital)

Maybe if she does join K9/TWF and gets some advice and support she may not feel the need to rehome him? Failing that perhaps there is someone on here who could find a space on their sofa for him. Very sad :(

I tried to edit my post before to say that perhaps she has PND, although giving the dog away would be a short term solution as the guilt may make her feel worse. It is a sad situation, and again if my dogs were just a year or two older I'd seriously consider it. She obviously loves him, having read the advert, but perhaps isn't making the best decision. With two 18 month old whippets here, I just think it would be too much for him. :(

poor love theres home here for him if needs be ...but i cant get up there to get him ...im down to 4dogs now so plenty of room .

Anyone got an account on preloved - I don't - to get details ?? or maybe to ask the lady to email me pm me for email addy/ contact details???

Not going to judge till we know the facts.

oh dear nicky  i must of missed a thread, hope everything is ok you end,

such a shame for this old boy, hope he gets sorted soon :luck:

I can give the contact details to anyone who wants them :)

Actually sorry the lady can only be contacted through email on preloved, but I could pass on any of your contact details if you want.

I think it sounds like she loves him very much, so even if she maybe was doing this for the wrong reasons I do feel for her. It would be great if someone from here could have him :)

Maybe then you should pass on the details of the forums then the lady could judge for herself. Likewise there is a very good rescue not far from where the lady lives whom she could contact and seek advice from them??

OK. The lady who owns this lovely old boy is called Pheobe and she is going to look into joining K9 and TWF to discuss possibly rehoming him

She will also contact The Oldies Club.

I am going to write back to Pheobe to try and put Jakers in touch with her as they live in the same area.

Strange , now the ad says he is 12
