I rarely take my whippets into the local park but with so much rain and a short earlier walk I thought a game of frisbie with Toddy would do him good so off we went.

I was absolutely disgusted at the amount of poo everywhere. So bad that the frisbie did not get off the ground!

We have 1 dog Warden in East Lothian so there is not much he can do.

I am going to write to my council suggesting that the groundsmen in parks and council workers be empowered to issue fines.

I clear up after 4 dogs, most people only have 1 or 2 dogs. By the looks of what is lying around, the owners of large dogs seem to be the worst offenders. I am sure that it is people like me who get the blame just because I have 4 dogs.

Our park is a popular play area for families with young children. I always offer bags to offenders when I see them. The look on their faces when they have to pick up what their dog has left behind is always a joy ;)

Does anyone have any ideas to suggest to the dog warden to help with this problem?

our park is ok, 99% of people here lift up after there dog, but you are right for some reason any mess that is left is usually from a big dog

there is a family up the road with a lab, and they just let it out the door, it walks its self to the park and always seems to do a huge pile on the pavement on the way over, it drives me nuts and its not like you can do/say anything because there is never anyone there with the dog

i would think if you complain or got enough people complain to the council they would have to do something :b

The problem is the exact same here . I always pick up after my girls and I regularly pick up after other peoples dogs too just because seeing it lying there annoys me so much . Also like you Eve because I have 4 dogs I would get the blame anyway . The owners of large dogs do seem to be the worst here too . I regularly pick up enourmous poos my girls could not possibly do .

At night we take our girls out on leads two at a time and we have a torch so we can see what they do . The number of people out with dogs off lead and no torch always amazes me .How can they possibly be picking up after their dogs when they cannot see what it is doing .

I find older men to be the worst offenders .

Theres no excuse is there nowadays....I even get free bags from one of my pet shops too...really strong ones courtesy of the local Council

in that area.

On my walks...I sometimes leave mine in the hedge....then collect them on the way back then put them in the nearest bin ...just really so I dont take them

right round on the whole outing. :x

I really cant understand folks who wont clean up... I even stepped out my front door the other day to find a gift right on my front step... a blooming big one too....arghhhhh

it really dosnt take a minute to clean up...so WHY ? really beats me with some people...

I did once put a small notice in my window....saying

If your dogs insist on using this area as their toilet...would the owners be so kind as to clean up afterwards...Thanks

I like your style Janis! I think I might try that as there are at least two dogs who regularly use the grass in front of my house and the owners never pick up after them! There was another but I managed to stop that one by catching her, running out with a bag and saying 'Oh isn't it awful when you forget to put more bags in your pocket?!!' :p Then I stood and watched her pick up her dog's mess!! She scuttled off looking very embarrassed and a little :x

I get through a lot of bags that way :))

I have tackled 1 local owner whos dogs insisted on using the pavement outside my home. Told him I had CCTV evidence and if it happened again, I would send it to the council. Worked a treat o:)

It drives me nuts too. We have a footpath/cycle path at the end of the road which runs along a disused railway line, it's a lovely wet weather (non muddy) walk with the dogs but is always knee deep in dog mess. I feel so sorry for the families I see walking there with small children or kids on bikes having to pick their way round the piles of dog poo. If I can pick up with five dogs I really can't see why other people can't manage.

I saw a man with two Springers this morning let them do their business right at the start of the path where everybody has to walk - and right beside a dog bin - then just walk off and leave it. If I'd have been a bit closer I'd have offered him a couple of bags! :-

my name round here is the s**t patrol I am disbaled and can pick up after all my dogs and yet come home time aftre time with crap onmy wheelchair or scooter wheels. I am allways having to pick poo up from outside my houes becoues i know dam well everyone will think its the cripple with all them dogs whos left it there. I get filthy looks when I am out with the dogs cos people presume I dont pick up. yet the lady with the shitsuz peaple wioll chat to her and stroke her dog. wish they new it was her dosg crap they just stood in

Its no wondre dogs are getting band from everywere its becoues of these stuped selfish people it makes my blood boil

Our local park is surrounded by 4 dog bins and the park and surrounding area is shill covered in shite !!!!!!!!!!!

people dont bother picking up after their dogs ....i cant even let my kids run around in the park..its a disgrace !!!!

Druridge Bay amazes me, not a bin in sight and it is National Trust. I tell a lie, there is a general 'rubbish' bin just at the entrance/exit. So what happens is that some people just don't bother to pick up, others do then leave the bags lying in the dunes and some even hang the bags on the fence posts. The worst offenders are the ones that bury their dogs mess in the sand for children to dig up!! :x I'm not sure what is so difficult about having a carrier bag in the car and popping the poo bags in there and disposing of them at home? OK, so it's not ideal but if securely bagged it doesn't smell. I'm not sure what is worse, biodegradable dog poo lying about or non-biodegradable bags of dog poo littering the countryside!! :nuke: I've spoken to the NT about it and they say that the bins are targetted by vandals and are not aesthetically pleasing?!!

we have the same here, the worst thing is the park i take our dogs to is my daughters school playing field :( and its everywhere  there is a man who lives just infront of the park and brings his massive GSD out there to do his number 2's rather than have him do it in his garden  i often offer him a poo bag as he always says he has forgotten them  it makes me sick.....i end up clearing some up when i pick up after mine :( there is a poo bin in every corner...what more do people want

This is a topic close to my heart ... we have signs all over this little town, saying that CCTV recordings are being made (and I mutter "I wish they were"!!) - it generally seems to be older men who are the worst, but some of the older teenagers are as bad.

Another type is the older man who walks his dog(s) off lead (by the side of the main road) and the dog is behind him, doing whatever it likes ... he can't see if it's made a mess unless someone draws his attention to it. One of the paths we walk on goes by a grassy area with seats on it, and this particular piece of grass is just covered in big piles of dog mess - and there is a bin next to the seats!!!

I really wish it was being filmed by CCTV then the council would be able to identify the offending owners. They can't be dog-lovers, otherwise they wouldn't want to give a bad impression to everyone else, would they?

*Edited when I read it back and spotted spelling error!!

I find it totally disgusting that people would leave their dog mess.....coming from London, there are little enough green areas for young children to play without the risk of getting covered in poo!

And I agree...it seems to be the larger dogs mess that is left.

Makes me wonder what these people did when their dogs were pups and had an accident indoors!

The worst offence of this nature I have seen recently was at the Western Country and Game Fair

The judging had just finished in the terrier ring and the champion and reserve awarded their ribbons and trophies.

In full view of everyone, one of the winning terriers did his business in the showring and the owner didn't bother to pick up - neither did any of his cronies seem to be bothered about it!!!

I'm just glad the judging had finished .......... but people still had to walk around the area to dismantle the ring

Absolutely disgusting   .......... and at a dog show too (w00t) (w00t) (w00t) (w00t)

Contact the 'environmental wardens' Eve. Thats what they are there for.

We call them periodically to cover certain areas at my work and they are really good. They sometimes come in with a van that has a long distance filming camera so they can keep an eye on large areas of my work place. They've even come in 'under cover' with their own dogs to catch the unexpecting offenders!

Haha...I always duck for cover when this problem comes up. I am a dog warden/Environmental Warden and i'm constantly bombarded with complaints...and that's in the most loveliest parts of the Lakes.

People here walk the fells and complain there's no bins and leave bags everywhere! Who in their right minds would expect to see a dog bin half way up Helvellyn or Honister

I know a lot of dog wardens and we are really busier than ever. Surveillance is a big issue with councils at the mo not being able to use it due to human rights...don't ask me why?

Needless to say I walk my dogs whilst still 'on duty' so if I see anyone they will be stopped :-

Thanks for the suggestion. I have been informed that The 'Environmental officers' were having their Easter break and that is probably why the park was worse than usual

They are a bit more dilligent when the cricket season starts and the top park is used by the local cricket team -_- :x

They will not CCTV film in the park because it contravines the rights of the children who play there  :x
