all from last Sept he doesnt look like that now unfortunately but hes still handsome to me, he has a split tongue ragged ears an absolute mass of scars but the most time he had of through the winter was 2 days one week during the cold spell,he now has an old head on young shoulders, he doesnt want to play with the other dogs, doesnt want anyone except me has a real seriousness about him, is hyper obedient and can be walked down any street even town centres of the lead to heel.Rterieves everything even from out of sight.
At the moment he is costing me a fortune as well in bio oil, thank god he isnt a black dog.
Also in the week he is at work with us on the scaffold, and this leads to lots of off the cuff opportunities as well.

I think you just answered your own statement about some folk looking down on you.
Most people care about their dogs & whilst some find it acceptable to work their dogs taking rabbits & hares etc, to pit their dogs up against a fox to fight a battle to the death knowing that there are going to be maybe horrific injuries to the dog, would see this as a blatant disregard to the dogs welfare.
You think this is a happy dog? This does not sound like a happy normal dog to me at all, it sounds like a machine thats been conditioned to do what you want it to do.
Just my opinion of course & we all see things differently.
I am not anti-hunting and yes whippets were bred to hunt for the pot.
I am not overly sentimental and have grown up in the countryside, I have nothing against working whippets, it is natural for them to hunt hares and rabbits.
If your Dogs are as obedient as you say in your working whippet post, you must encourage them to tackle Foxes.
The Fox is not a Whippets natural prey.
Does it give you a thrill to see your dogs mutilated by foxes?
Have you ever eaten one of the Foxes that your dogs suffered such injuries to kill? After all, whippets were bred to hunt for the pot
Fair do's Whippets hunting natural prey, yes, I have no problem, Dog bating is illegal and may offend even your natural sensibilities.
I suppose Foxes are the next best thing.

most whippets will leave fox well alone after 1 or 2 encounters , unfortunately a few wont..when out hunting cover for rabbits it will occur,plenty of damage in a few seconds in tight bramble/ saying that a black dog worked on rat a few times will show up scars far worse than a pale whippet /also the best working dogs i owned ditched playful activities early in life in favour of hunting does,nt mean they arnt loved praised and looked after the best,, i worship my dogs..a few scars dont mean a bad owner..ps i,ve read 2 threads this 1 and the topic regarding booting aggresive dogs and owners or should i say condone kicking unleashed dogs in the ribs etc/ sounds like your not looking after your dogs by putting them in danger when walking them in such places,,,try taking them out in the field away from such danger

Darren put your dog in a pink coat and carry it in an handbag, then the members on here might like you.
