What are peoples thoughts, Should I race my dog Murphy again, I'll tell you why I am asking, Murphy was very ill in June I nearly lost my lad to some sick individual who has been mixing rat poison in dog food and leaving it in areas where myself and others walk there dogs, Murphy was not showing any signs or so I thought at the time, a bloke that I had been talking to on the day we suspect he had taken the poison knocked to tell me his dog was fighting for its life at the vets and suggested I get Murphy along to my vets, Murphy had been lethargic and not his normal mischievious self for a day or two.

The vet told me to leave him there so he could run some tests and for me to phone later about picking him up, when I called at the vets later I could'nt believe how much he had deuterated, He had given him a vitamin K injection and iv fluids,Murphy was at the vets for two days.

I have been totally gutted over my lad just glad he is still with me but not building my hopes that I would ever be able to race him again due to possible long term health problems but he seems to be back to normal running after my other dog with out any problems and a good recovery after a good run also my vet gave him a clean bill of health but is not aware I race him but knows he loves a good run.

What do people think should I race him again? I do miss my Sunday racing and it would be great to see him running again even if he is last to the finishing line ,,LoL.

Regards Gary&Murphy

Hi gary, sorry to hear about murphy been so ill, but glad hes recovered now .

I would bring him along to racing and give him a trial and see how he goes, you can give him half the length if you feel happier than starting him off the full distances ,murphy loves racing so it would be ashame to have to stop it .

Would also be nice to see you all again too

We are running this sunday but not sure about the 12th yet as some of us will be at the independent :))

Run him. No question.

If the vet is happy with him then that should be ok for you. If there was any possibility of lung or heart damage he would have told you already.

And Murphy won't thank you for leaving him on the sidelines :)

Hi Gary,

So sorry to hear about poor Murphy :( But so glad the vet has given him a clean bill of health

We will look forward to seeing you both at the club again, like Trish said just give him a short trial & see how he goes

Thanks all three of you for your support  I bit the bullet last night and sent Barry a PM, I took Murphy out yesterday to some playing fields with my daughter and gave him a good run probably just over a 150 yrds :sweating: He was fine, I think its more me it really was a horrible couple of months up till last month there was just know life in him, my Border would be running circles around him trying to encourage play, him standing there with his head down an no intrest in life.

The other blokes dog was put down by the vet, gutted for him.

Anyway moving on, looking forward to the racing tomorrow and fingers cross all goes well :luck:

Regards Gary

Thanks Mandy :)) Only trialing going on at the Northern today, Murphy had a great time ploughing through the mud and the added bonus no muzzle so was able to kill the lure  could have done with a plank of wood to prize his mouth open, just was'nt going to give it up.. :)
