:teehee: Hello!!! :D

Just a quick question!!

Does anyone know how to get involved in puppy training classes???

My little girl is having her second jab next week so will be able to socialise in the not so distant future.... I was hoping the vet's walls would be adorned in obedience class posters, but unfortunately there was nothing!!!!!

I am based near Exeter in Devon and although Pixie is gorgeous, she is (ahem) a little unruley!! So far sit is about the closest i've come to any kind of positive response. She pretty much takes no notice of me at all in fact, other than insisting on boinging along (not walking) between my legs, hanging off the tops of my wellies, which leads to me spending most of my time trying not to fall over!! She is an absolute joy and I understand she is a typical full of beans puppy, but I think the time is coming to start looking at trying to tame the wild beast a little!

If anyone knows of anyone in my area who might be able to help pleeeeease let me know! :D

when we got indy I phoned a few of the local vets as some of them have traning class info on there noticeboards. but before you take your pup along to the class i would pop along on traning night and check there methods are somthing you agree with and can stick with. usily at first its just sociolistion but some limmited basic traning is done. there can be very differnt traning methods. we were lucky even though ours was an ex police and millatry dog handler he undrestood completly that our indy was not going to put her bum on any outside cold floor and even though it ade him smile he was happy for her to have a mat to sit on as we allways tranined outside. if you dont like the fisrt class dont stick it out shop round till you fined one thats right for you and your pup

How about contacting your local council to see if they have a dog warden because they should know about training classes. "Boinging" along is a natural whippet puppy gait and I think that once you get her out she will be so curious and intrigued by everything that she will walk along beside you. I have 5 boys and 2 of them do obedience and agility and absolutely love it - I do agree that they don't like a cold floor to sit on but mine wear a woolly jumper if its cold in the hall!! Good luck with your puppy and don't forget to post some photos.

I think Pixie has been trained up by my Tala

Was there a thread on here at some point where people

were adding their local ringcraft groups or did i dream it

I found out about the training classes that I use by word of mouth. Having said that, there were quite a few listed in my local yellow pages. I went along and sat in as a spectator on a couple of different ones before choosing the right one for me. Gracie has done really well and is attentive and interested like the good girl she is. :)) Milo is completely uninterested, ignores me and behaves like the class clown, spending most of his time on his back with his legs in the air much to everyone's amusement and my frustration! :(

Thanks for the help!! :))

I shall remember the cold floor tip!! She is having her second vaccination on wed so I shall ask the vet if he recommends any groups, if not I shall follow up your other suggestions. I look forward to the day when I can once again walk 100 yards in a straight line without falling over  Unless she has already cottoned on to the fact that if she trips me up enough I will carry her  lol, in which case i think I am doomed!!

She certainly is a Devon Pixie :teehee:

I shall add pics as I get them

have a look on the kennel club site there should be plenty listed on there .lol i only know the ringcraft clubs .theres a show at the livestock center on saturday so lots of dog ppl ,so you may get info there
