Hi Folks,

The best bitch I have ever had the pleasure of owning has passed away. I had mated her as I want to start showing again ,so I thought a new start warrants a new baby. Everything was going ok and I gave her a cuddle Last Friday night at bed time and I could feel the babies there and thought these are either big or there is quite alot of them. She was full of energy and gave me a great big kiss before she jumped into her box. She lived in a large part of a shed with heating on.

On the Saturday morning I started to let the dogs out and started cleaning the first kennel which belongs to one of my Alsatians. The other two are in the same block away from the Whippets. Lucy was the last kennel to look at and she boltered out across the garden and went down on the pasterns into the mud and fell to the floor. She was shaking violently so I rushed to her. I could see blood everywhere. I got her vet bed and rolled her into it to ease any stress when I lifted her. I rushed her to the nearest vet and had to shout at them to get any service. I was just told to sit down and I was looking after her in the car when I saw other people going in to see the vet before me. I had to shout at them that my girl was dying and all they where doing was giving jabs. They put her on a drip but didn't give her any blood she was aborting. In all the haste I forgot to phone my daughter who job is head nurse and Yorkshire area Manager for Vets now. Only 2 weeks ago she had sent them mail saying they had blood and blood products for there use if needed but the vet forgot this important fact. She lasted until about 3pm without an op to get the dead puppies out. She had had enough and passed away at 3-30pm without having a operation. They even charged me for an overnight stay which I refused to pay. My daughter has given them hell and found out many things they should have done they forgot to do. and we put our faith in these people. Vets now is very expensive but your pet gets gold standard service. Please folks ask your vet if they carry or have access to blood the next time you see them. I believe my girl could have been saved if she had receive blood.

She is gone now but will be loved forever.

Mike

How very sad. :'(

When my dog was in agony, I walked into my vets with him and they dropped everything.

Not one of the waiting clients had anything but kind words for me despite being kept waiting 30 minutes.

I believe that most vets would do the same for someone and their pet, client or not.

Rest in Peace, Lucy

If you dont mind me asking when were the pups due? Had she long to go before she whelped??

im so so sorry to hear of this sad sad incident but im hearing more and more problems with vets these days begining to think they just legalised robbers sometimes

Hi Dawn,

She was 5 weeks , so had another 4 weeks to go. My daughter didn't half tear into the vet. She knows what he should have done as they deal with emergencies every day. She is more qualified than a normal nurse because they have to take exams like a paramedic would do. As she told me the vet didn't do any history reports and never gave me a estemate price before they took her away. Her cervix was open and she was bleeding so she needed blood not a drip. the bitch perked up at dinner time why didn't they operate then they gave her a scan and she had a belly full of pups all dead they said. Those pups should have been taken out at the first opertunity. As my daughter said to me ," I am used to Gold Standard service, but this isn't even bronze service." I hope your changing vets now. Yes was the answer.

Thanks for all the remarks and condolences. Wonder what I am going to do now ?.

Mike

I am so sorry, what a heartbreaking situation :'(

The vet should not be practising - I believe their constitution states that they should act to save animals' lives - not just take money for vaccinations.

Run free, little Lucy. Be happy xxxx

that's really, really awful; your poor girl :( so very sorry to hear about that.

That's a shame but I suppose a risk of breeding. Do you know what caused this to happen? Was this your regular vet?

What a tragedy. Four years ago one of my girls was in a road accident. We rushed her to the vet that we have had for years. went straight in, he assessed her, closed the surgery, called another vet in to assist and the two vets worked on her for over two hours and because her lungs collapsed, two nurses bagged her for the whole time. She was given only a 20% chance of even getting through the op but, thanks to their expertise and care, she survived and is fit and well. Your practice is a disgrace and I would report them to the BRVS.
