ive only been at it for 2 years but i know who to pm now my dog was breed to run hare rabbit or tesco bag he just loves it and i get as much fun out of both

I have been running my dog on the lamp now for a few months (shes 14mths old) she has taken to it really well! and shes pulled plentys out of the hedge, i think if your dog does turn them from where they want to go and they end up in the hedge somwhere else they dont know where to go so often they will just sit there, i have found it worth while keeping the lamp on the hedge a few seconds longer, often the dog will pop it head in and then you will hear the tell tale squeal and out comes said rabbit in dogs mouth!Brilliant, well done!!! Great to hear about a lurcher doing what she is bred to do. Had an odd one out with Finn the other night, did a great run on a rabbit but it got to the hedge ahead of him. He then proceeded to head in the hedge and came back out with said rabbit!!!! Guess it must have been squatting just inside. Anyone had this happen when they've been out lamping??? Guess it must be because he's half terrier!!!
Well done you and sky!! Nothing like the feeling of ya first rabbit! 1st of many! 'Proper job!' as they say round here!Well Sky is now 16 Months old and ready to start working (cant believe where the time has gone :wacko: ).
9 weeks old:-
On friday night I went out with my good friend Lucy, it wasnt the best of conditions but we thought we would just have a mooch with the dogs and see what was about, and if nothing then it would give us and the dogs a walk. I was just going to take Brindle and Lucy's dog Oli at first as I always like to start my pups on their own with just me and them, but I decided that I would take Sky as well so she could watch if there was the opportunity for one of the boys to run. Anyway, both boys had a couple of short runs when my battery for the lamp went flat so we had to call it a night :angry: but during them couple of runs Sky was very keen and watching their every move and every time the lamp went on she was watching down the beam
Saturday night the wind picked up a little so I thought I would take the chance and go out with Sky on our own. So I went somewhere where I knew there would be rabbits about, put her on the slip, got the lamp out and off we went. I wasnt too worried about her having a chase to be honest, I would have been happy for her to just have seen a rabbit at the end of the beam.
We went through one field and there were a few on the run but too far away so we carried on into the next field, a squatty right in the middle of the field, perfect.....and it just sat there! :lol: We walked up, Sky totally fixed on it and when we were with in about 15 yrds....up it got.....off Sky went, right behind it like a bullet, it turned, she kept running and by the time she turned back herself it was gone, bless her she looked as if to say "where the hell did that go"
Anyway in to the last field now and there was another squatty which sat there again
I have great pleasure now in saying that my baby girl is all grown up and has done me proud on her first night out :wub: :wub:

Hello! I'm based just outside Cullompton so not a million miles from you. Glad to hear you've been having success with your young lurcher too, what cross is she??? My boy is quite young too only 18 months and is a little bedlington x whippet. I admit he's prob not the ideal lamping dog as he is only 19'' tall but he's entusiastic and has caught a few on the lamp now which we're happy with! Im new to all this but luckily my dog has taken well to it (picked up to run the beam real quick), i also have a mate i go lamping with whos been doing it for years which helps.
Where in Devon do you live then lurcher girl? I live near Exmouth.
Thanks driller killer - she is a good girl and its always a proud moment when your puppy catches their 1st few. She is coming on Leaps and bounds now, looking down the beam as soon as the lamp comes on and jumping hedges and going under gates for me too which she was really a big whimp about doing before!!Well done you and sky!! Thank you - she is collie/grey x collie/grey with 1/8th bull and 26inches tts. :thumbsup:
