Oh they must have been Millys litter brother and sister, they live in Devon and are called Kalima and Levante? As you can see from this pic they were very similar colouring as babies.

yes,it must be them, the couple who had them are very nice people i would say about middle age.

Milly is a beautiful girl  I really enjoyed looking through the pictures of her and her friends, I've never seen a silken windhound before - lovely

Oh my goodness, Milly is so, so beautiful- everything I want in a Silken! SO JEALOUS!!! :D

Wow what an amazing looking dog....beautiful...

I have seen saluki cross collie types that look like thisbut also more athletic..They are quite pretty but they don't look terribly functional to me another American show breed by the looks.

yes so do I, my point is these look to be more about show than go which is to my eyes a shame as you can have both if the selection process and foundation stock is different. I am only going on photos though and a not particularly high opinion of the working qualities of the modern borzoi.

You should learn more about silkens RM before issuing such statements  :D The breeds founder is very well known for her performance borzois, making up a great many lure coursing and racing champions as well as hunting on a large ranch. The reason she started down the silken road was to create a smaller hound that was still hardy enough to travel by the side of their horses for a whole day or two. Silkens all over the world compete in flat racing and lure coursing and this ability is important to the silken breeders. They may be incredibly pretty, but that doesn't stop them running :)

And as to your other comment about the working qualities of the modern borzoi, I can't help wondering how much research you've put into this comment too? You have to remember what borzois where bred for, for chasing and holding wolves, I believe that every one of the 15 borzoi I've owned could still have done that job. My 9 1/2 year old boy is still very keen as anyone who has seen him running at Kincardine will tell you. He doesn't have a great temperament for modern day society but it is probably the temperament that was required back in the czars day! No, you probably won't find a borzoi that will retrieve rabbits to hand if that's your definition of working, but most will still hunt (and I do mean hunt rather than just chase).

not met one personally but the piks ive seen look like a collie x whippet :b
Given that they can be afflicted with Collie Eye Anomaly (CEA), I'd say you're right.
Ooops - should clarify. I read that Shetland Sheepdog had been used in the mix somewhere. If the Silken Windhound can suffer from CEA, there's more than Borzoi and Whippet in the mix.

Errrr - they don't suffer from CEA!

Are you perhaps thinking of the MDR1 gene? Silkens can carry this gene, which is found in many herding breeds leading us to believe that the original windsprite dogs used in the founding generations had some sheltie way back in their make up. The defect MDR1 gene is of course no where near as serious as something like CEA. Both my collies and my silken are MDR1 carriers, it simply means I never use any ivermectin based drugs as these dogs are more sensitive to the ivermectin family than dogs that don't have this gene :)

Oops sorry, you're right. It was Ivermectin sensitivity

Linky to results here. Anyone who's wondering how they got "Longhaired Whippets" can probably stop wondering too based on those results.

Milly is stunning!!!

Hope to see some more pictures of her!! She looks like a great size aswell.

i don't want an argument but Borzois were regarded as effete before the Russian revolution if you think a modern show borzoi could pull down a wolf you are mistaken. I haven't seen any of these silken wolfhounds oin the flesh which is why I say they don't look that athletic rather than being categorical about it but I would bet a lot of money that a creation using non ped working types would produce superior stock I am reminded off a conversation I once had at crufts with a show greyhound owner who claimed her dogs were the equal of track blood for speed, anyone who knows dogs knows they aren't and anyone with an experinced eye can tell that by looking at them.

Your wish is my command :)

Silken Windhounds in USA do

Lure Coursing in ASFA

http://www.asfa.org/

Straight Racing

http://iswsstraightracing.weebly.com/

Oval Racing

http://iswsovalracing.weebly.com/

In Europe the organized possibilites are limited when it comes to performance sports for Silken Windhounds.

In Slovenia they can compete officially in LC, in Finland they compete inofficially (not entirely sure how, but they do) and often have their own events at big official LC trials etc.

For the rest of us in Europe it is mostly about being allowed to train in performance sports, not compete.

There are lot's of photos and videos from Silken in performance sports online.

This site is but one example
