Feeding A Natural Diet (barf)

I have a 16 month old whippet, he constantly has loose motions. (well the first of the day is solid the rest get worse and worse)

The vets have found nothing to suggest that their is something wrong.

A lady at my training club has suggested that Ollie might do better on the BARF diet.

I dont really have a clue how to do this, the thought of feeding him chicken wings etc.. terrifies me!! although i think it does everyone to begin with.

do any of you feed raw....if so what would be a general weekly menu for your whippets?

have you found it benificial for your dog?

I have a dog with similar problems, loose stools.

Tried vets advice of James Wellbeloved and a couple of other hypoallergenic foods but none made any difference. Went to my local pet shop and tried a small bag of Supadog sensitive and he's gained weight and got firm stools for the first time in his life, 2 months later and he's looking and feeling a lot better on this food.

Try it because it worked for mine when nothing else did :thumbsup:
 
I feed the natural BARF diet.....and have done since my boys were all puppies.

 

They get Raw chicken wings am.....or Sardines/Pilchards...and a drop of Goats milk Each.

 

Flint who is 6 months still gets a lunchtime meal of minced lamb or beef and biscuits..

 

and the rest including Flint all have an evening Meal around 6pm of Biscuits, Tripe or chicken or Beef or lamb...whichever comes out of the freezer first.

I defrost it overnight. They get the odd raw egg beaten and natural yoghurt too. :thumbsup:

I feed my whippet lurcher and 2 terriers on small chicken wing for breakfast, if it's a large one I joint it smaller so 2 between the 3 dogs OR lamb neck stock bones from supermarket cut to suitable portion, for tea they usually get small amount of skinners complete biscuits with raw mince on, they also get any leftovers, raw fish they love sprats tinned fish in tomato sauce, raw egg occasionally, they love apple and banana, I do watch they don't get anything too salty or grapes or onion tho

I get the wings and mince from the petshop in 2.5kg bags and get bones from supermarket or local butcher (and chicken carcases) but they don't often have any.

The poos are lovely, small dry crumbly and don't smell much, and they hardly ever break wind.
 
I feed raw beef, lamb, chicken, tripe, heart, rabbit, turkey, fish, and eggs, as well as lamb ribs and chicken wings :thumbsup: I add 2 scoops of Dorwest Herbs Easy Green powder, (although you can just add a spoonful or two of green leafy veg instead if you prefer) and 2 scoops of Keepers Mix each day with their main meal.

I used to occasionally feed a good quality grain free complete but they began refusing this in preference to the raw, so we dont bother any more :wacko:

Bones are fine but they should be supervised whilst eating them, and never cooked, only raw :))
 
Alfie gets the BARF diet, but I'm intrigued that a lot of people are adding biscuit to the raw meat. I personally don't but I would like to know why others do.... is it to bulk up the meal, or so less meat is needed per feed? Or does it contain something that is missing from the BARF diet?
 
Mine just get a handful of biscuits...I use Burgess supermix...but I know some people just use a plain terrier meal type biscuit.

 

I only really added biscuit to bulk it the meat out a little, but NO it isnt always necessary, although I have read a lot of articles on BARF feeding too.

No I dont either... Keepers Mix is a herbal supplement from Dorwest Herbs not a biscuit :thumbsup:
