Burns Dry Food

Hi not posted in a while but looking for advice on Burns dry food. My boys are on hills science plan and I am looking to change. Is it any good? They've tried some sample packs. They seemed to like it.

Burns is one of the best, along with Arden Grange, Autarky and James Wellbeloved.

I always keep a bag of one of the other of these but it's only for snacks as mine are fed a raw diet :thumbsup:
 
I like Skinners http://www.skinnerspetfoods.co.uk/home/ they do a good range including muesli types, small family producer not huge faceless company, duck & rice and salmon & rice are hypoallergenic and they use human grade ingredients with no additives, all my dogs like it and it's only £20 or under for 15kg sack xx

Burns is a good food but mine don't like it, it seems dry and unintersting, they like Arden Grange but my purse doesn't :eek:

we have Burns (well the dog does...not the humans) she likes it, the duck and brown rice flavour, since chicken anything tends to give her dandruff !

nice and clean in the bowl + neat poos to pick up !!
 
Burns is one of the better completes.

I feed a raw diet but i do have a sack of complete around for emergencies - like forgetting to take the tripe out of the freezer!

I too use Skinners (Duck and Rice), as already stated, it's hypoallergenic, no horrible additives and i think excellent value for money at around £20 for a 15kg sack (it's a VAT free one). The others that i'd use are a lot more expensive.
 
Burns---nothin but the best, read the wee booklet u get with your first bag, all true what it says, and if your racing your dog, then nothin better than Burns Active, all the other dogs will be Lookin at your dogs bum when racing FACT :thumbsup:

Thanks for replying. Been reading so much on Internet and it's not always good or correct! Burns sounds positive. Is Arden Grange in a par does anyone know?
 
I used Burns for my two whippets before they went on to raw. I found it good although all the completes made them runny which is why I switched. Have you looked at the Burns moist food pouches? I suspect they might be quite expensive to use all the time but my two have them once a week for a treat and absolutely love them.
 
As everyone has said Burns is an excellent quality complete. However, I have heard a lot of people say that it does give their dogs the runs and also that dogs drop weight on it very easily; fine if your dog does have a battle with the bulge but not so good if they are already on the skinny side!

Another complete worth trying is Fish 4 Dogs.
 
I use Burns High Oats when Porky Pig aka Dylan forgets to attend Weight Watchers. They usually have meat and mixer with a few veggies and are fine but sometimes Dylan sets up base camp by the fridge and I know when I'm not in persuades the other humans in the house to share whatever they are eating with him.

I'll second fish4dogs.
 
Burns is a good food but it doesn't suit all dogs. Taz is a dustbin dog who can generally eat absolutely anything, but Burns made him runny. On the other hand Sophie who has a sensitive tummy and can be runny on some other foods did well on Burns :wacko:
 
I would never feed my lot burns ever again ......... Had nothing but problems with it and after a while their coats were dull and flakey ..... Just my opinion though ...
 
Daisy has Irritable Bowel Disease and a lot of food intolerances which include chicken and beef.

Her stools were pure liquid and she was passing blood as well.

On a vets advice I put her on to Burns Pork and Potato.

If you could see the before and after photos, you would hardly believe she is the same dog after 4 months.

Her coat is beautiful, her eyes full of sparkle and she is full of energy and as fit as my experienced coursing whippets. They get Aukarty & the Burns P&P

I do not know about the other Burns products but I would say that the Burns Pork and potato tends to make the dog produce very firm stools.

I had Daisy on Lactulose for a couple of months when she started the Burns P&P.

I cannot recommend the Burns Pork & P highly enough. Zooplus do 2 bags for about £76.00 including delivery.

I would add that fish4dogs gave all my dogs the runs even tho I introduced it gradually.
 
Tilly has been on Burns for the past five years and thrives on it. She is in beautiful condition with a coat you can see your face in and she will eat any variety of it. Milo came from his breeder on Fish4dogs and just wouldn't eat it when he came to me. In the end I just put him on Burns Puppy and he happily hoovered this up and is now on the adult Burns and, like Tilly, does well on any variety. Gracie has had some tummy issues in the past which were nothing to do with her diet and she is on Royal Canin Gastro-intestinal, it's high fibre and suits her very well. Milo and Tilly will also eat this if I've been lax and forgotten to collect my Burns. Mine also get fresh chicken and sardines. None of mine have had runny tummies that have been due to being fed Burns.

NB Trying to be thrifty, when Milo refused his Fish4dogs I tried feeding it to the others and they wouldn't touch it either!

Maybe they're meaty rather than fishy eaters, although they are all partial to a bit of fish jerky as training

Arden Grange is great for my Americans but 2 of my whippets looked like bags of bones and although I reguarly tried other food it made no difference and one of my boys lost his belly hair. Tried barf but just dont have enough storage space so decided to try Oscar's lamb and the 2 skinny whippets are great on it. And hair has returned - both are really building up and looking so much better (again VAT free food and i think its about £18 a sack
