Someone with the idea of giving the said dog a fancy name example "a WestHaughton Whippet" and there will be "gotta have ones" paying silly money just to say they have got a"WestHaughton Whippet" PRICE well they wont be cheap as said breeder paid over £1,000 for the dog/bitch they're that rare
Nah, that's just desperation now. There's taking advantage of folk and then there's plain old naivity and I'm not about to start defending people for being stupid enough to fall for the ''emporer's new clothes'' scam.

Buyer beware applies to all dog breeds.

NAH its not desperation look how much people are prepared to pay for WORKING WHIPPETS

So, say I wanted to buy a non-ped, roughly how much would a pup cost?

I think the pedigree Parson Russells remind me a bit more like a fox terrier, much leggier than what is known locally as a 'Jack Russell type' - which are cheaper too (w00t)
yes the parson is a higher on the leg breed than the average jack russell, the gene pool for parsons is smaller too becaus of the cut off date for registering them

different people have different reasons for wanting kc recognition for a breed. having a friend in plummer terriers he tells me that he wants kc recognition so that show breeders will want to breed them and expand the gene pool as at the moment theyre a small breed with mainly working owners who know little or nothing of genetics or genetic inheritance but only mate 'worker to worker' and not having the patience for having a good planned breeding program they tend to do vey close inbreedings ie brother to sister father to daughter for numerous generations as a quick and easy method of 'fixing' type.then after a few years they lose interest and leave the breed and so also leave an inheritance of problems, hence the breed is suffering from problems that if they were in the hands of more knowledgeable and dedicated people would soon be eradicated

I think this goes to show the contradictions in breeding for showing rather than breeding for work, perhaps the Plummer terrier is a good example as it is such a recently developed type? Which is the priority for people who own dogs, especially terriers who work: form or function?

I'd wager good money no racer would want recognition from the KC. They have nothing to offer the breed whatsoever.
The poll started in the non-ped section points to albeit a small number that are interested in making mor money from pups

And I'll bet those who voted for that are not non ped racers

for the working lads its function every time.they dont care if a dog is crippled as long as it works!

Now that is way off the mark :angry:and what evidence do you base this statement on?

Totally agree with Nellie, that is one of the worst and uncalled for statements i have ever read on K9.Apart from that how can a dog fulfill a work function if it is crippled

the reason i make the statement is i know from my friend that plummers are riddled with defects like legge perthes bad hips slipping patellas and tbh ive seen them at game fairs and ive seen judges placing them highly!

the working lads who have them dont know about genetics and certainly dont want to know or learn.they say worker to worker and thats the only way to breed,.if you dont think its true go join sites like the hunting life and wake up! ;)

Come on now if plummer terriers are riddled with defects they would nt be capable of working would they? So the working lads who breed worker to worker are breeding from proven stock thats fit and strong enough to work not riddled with defects

well not owning one i wouldnt know but knowing people who do own them id say yes they do have a lot of problems and no just because they can catch a rat doesnt make them defect free sorry

ive seen skipping plummers at game fairs that obviously have patella problems but they can still walk and still hunt but i wouldnt breed from them but the working lads do. the ones ive spoken to say if it can work thats all that matters.they also have a legge perthes problem in the breed but its not talked about!worker to worker all the way! ;)

You could always ask your friend that told you about these problems they have  As for the working I was meaning earth work(terrier from the French Terra) not rats

plummers werent bred primarily as an earth dog but as a ratting dog for which they are superb though some of the working lads do use them as earth dogs though why is beyond me  get a patterdale or a lakie!

plummer foundation stock wasnt healthy to begin with, leg and hip defects abounded and still do.but as the working lads say so what if it skips as long as it can work?having said this there are a few intelligent breeders of them who are taking steps to rectify the situation and are not breeding brother to sister and father to daughter which is what the workers do,so there is hope for the breed ;)

Are you trying to say these plummers were bred from stock that was nt healthy to start with?

but as the working lads say so what if it skips as long as it can work?

ARE THESE THE VERY SAME DOGS YOU SAW PLACED HIGHLY AT SHOWS? AND YOU MUST OF ASKED THEM IF THEY WORK THEM TO GET YOUR ANSWER FROM THESE WORKING LADS :- ?

having said this there are a few intelligent breeders of them who are taking steps to rectify the situation

AND PRAY TELL HOW THESE INTELLIGENT BREEDERS INTEND TO ERADICATE THESE PROBLEMS PLEASE? SIMPLE FACT IS THEY SHOULD NT BE BREEDING FROM DEFECTIVE DOGS TO BEGIN WITH

and are not breeding brother to sister and father to daughter which is what the workers do,so there is hope for the breed ;)

now are you getting line breeding confused with inbreeding? Both are fraught with possibilities that may not produce what is needed  and then again it can produce excellent strong stock

Surely 'proper terriermen', not people who like to catch a few rats with dogs (which any type of dog should be able to do), use proper worker to worker breeding to breed proper working terriers fit for the purpose required of a 'real working terrier'. Surely a working terrier is bred to do the job, regardless of how it looks, thus the breeding and ctossbreeding of the Patterdale, Fell and Jack Russells worker to worker to first and foremost produce a working terrier, not primarily one to win rosettes in a show. How many of these Plummer terriers are used by professional terrierman to shift foxes?

only read part of this topic, non peds dont and cant work like lurchers,

evere can lurchers race like non peds.

but you will always get freaks like a non ped with stamina and a lurcher with speed,

a lurcher show shouldnt be invaded by washed out non peds that havnt done anything on the track (w00t)

but certain people keep goin on and invading the lurcher shows cheating genuine lurcher owners out of rosettes,

i say if theres any of you non ped owners with proper working lurchers pm me and we will put it to the test at the side of proper working lurchers,
