Hi all,

I've seen them at dog racing venues - a ruler with a sliding bit to accurately measure their shoulder size - I've tried 'dog measure' and 'dog ruler' in my search engine... I thought I'd track my pups growth and a tape measure makes them very very excited - oooh its a snake!

TIA Rachel

This is a good question Rachel. My dad made mine, many, many years ago so I would be interested in the replies.

We bought a measuring stick from a fellow exhibitor just the other week – she was selling a few of them; they were really lovely and well made. Unfortunately Anne only tends to go to shows in the Cheshire/Staffordshire area and I think may have now sold them all.

A couple of weeks if I remember correctly.

The lady to email is Kathy Ringering, email dblring@i1.net

oooh it's a snake - made me giggle (w00t)

cheapest way would be to stick a measuring tape to a wall or doorframe, stand the dog against it with a straight stick or bar across the shoulders and mark off the height, or if they are diddy use a solid wood or metal ruler next to them

I use a yard stick and a small spirit level. the level is essential as its very easy to be 1/2 inch out either way by eye.

Terry Ward made one for me. It has two uprights with steel measures on each, holes for pegs at 20" and 20" and a half. Very correct as a bar drops onto the pegs.

She sold them all, a friend had made them but had moved from his house into a smaller apartment and had no room for them.

Many thanks for the replies so far. In view of my pups being a bunch of silly twits I cancelled out wickets and wall measuring, but was interested in the ebay listing - thanks twinkletoes, - the measure is almost what I want but only went up to 18ins - I'm expecting at least one of mine to be a biggie, but have emailed her re. a bigger size - I've suggested 25ins to be on the safe side (pls pls K9 God, don't let them be this big!)

With a view to what you say Juley re. spirit level, I found a horse measure with one in for a similar price to the ebay thingy and perfect - wooden with brass bits, but is this going to be way too big to be practical? If my little twits think a tape measure is fun, what will they make of me approaching with ultra large stick!

I'll keep you posted with progress - looks like this is a gap in the market for the enterprising, ruler making person! :))
