Daisy has been on Burns Pork and Potato for the last 10 months as she suffers from Lymphocytic plasmacytic enteritis (LPE).

It worked wonders, she gained wieight and her bowels were much better.

The last bag of Burns Pork & Potato I opened was much darker in colour.

Since feeding this Diasy has had real problems with constapation.

I phoned Burns to ask about changes to the product.

I was informed that it is now being manufactured by a new supplier and while the content is the same, it is much dryer and denser and the source of Potato starch may have changed. I was advised to feed less and add a little vegatable oil. It does not seem to make a difference.

Does anyone else use Burns Pork & Potato and if so is anyone having problems with the new batch?

Thanks

I use it and have had no problems . I have a bag on order so will let you know if there is any difference with this bag .

Thanks Alison

The new batch is darker in colour and a harder texture. It has been in production for about 4 months

Still having problems with Daisy on it.

Will give her another few days before I try introducing something else as there are very few alternatives for Daisy except the 'specailist foods'

I've been using a bag for a few weeks, due to supply problems with the usual raw I feed, I was surprised at the hard stools it produces, as hard and dry as when they've had pure meat and bones!

Thanks for the reply

That is exactly what I am finding. The stools are as if Daisy has been being fed bones!

I was advised by the Burns nutritionist to add half a teaspoon of veg oil with each feed.

I should not have too, it should be a balanced diet.

Hi Eve, I don't come on here very often these days but just happened to log in and saw this. I remember Daisy's problems but can't remember exactly what foods she reacts badly to. If it's any help I've heard a few people raving about Barking Heads

How infuriating when you had found a diet that suited her. Hope you manage to sort something out.

Just wanted to say a new bag has arrived this week . It is darker and slightly different but does not seem to affect my dog in any way .

If I had a problem I would add whatever was needed to it . Although it is produced for the average dog who amongst us has an average dog .

They all have slightly different needs as do people

The oil added recommended by Burns made no difference.

I have now started adding a bit of lactulose and am still pre-soaking the food.

I will have to wait and see if this helps.

Thanks for the many suggestions regarding alternative diets.

Daisy does not tolerate rice very well so that precludes a lot of alternative diets.

I used to use Burns and would use nothing else. About two years ago I experienced terrible problems with them - caused by a change in formula (granted not the pork and potato).

The reason for writing this post is that Burns are not the only company that use potato as the source of carbohydrate in their dog food. Fish4dogs do too. Maybe that is worth a try and I don't find it any more expensive than Burns. You can buy this at many pet shops and also direct via their website which is how I get mine :)

As we have got a bit further into the new bag my dog fed on this has also become constipated

Thanks Alison

I am about to phone Burns again. I am not happy about having 1 and 3/4 bags of dog food that I cannot use in the garage.

I want them to take it back and refund me.

I am about to switch to Trophy Duck and Potato as Daisy seems to tolerate the trial pack that they sent.

Fingers crossed.
