well had a member on here ask for some rabbits yesterday and she wanted them nice and fresh

so shane and leon where over to open and shut the gates on what was a warm evening.

i left the 2 older dogs at home and just took the 2 pups which did me proud runing them single most of the night

shane took chopper who nearly got into double figures but a farm roller stopped that but what this dog has done in the last few months is unbelavable realising hes got gears now and hes learning how to use them

we accounted for 41 rabbits and if these pups keep goin like there going at the moment i think i will be writing a fair bit about them in the future,

2 hrs rabbit bashing

Hi Billy, Chopper is really doing us proud getting those rabbits ;) its taken a bit of time getting him to slow down but its really paid off and now hes catching dinner for all of us :)) and as Mark says there should be some interesting stories this season because Chopper is improving all the time ;) .........And Mark thanks for your nice comments about Chops, i'm so pleased that you can see how much he has improved  i never would have thought that Chopper could come close to catching the numbers that your dogs do but now hes really earning his seat in the landi :teehee: although the way your pups are catching there isn't going to be much room left in your boot

chopper is a non ped

and i think when it comes to runing him at a show after doing this a few dogs will need to watch out,

i told shane to enter him into the coursing events in future i think you might just have a winner there  and you will see the differance,

my dogs are run like this from pups and the stamina has to be 100% for any dog to keep up with these but all dogs are bred differantly for differant purposes,

kat is out again tonight she ran well last night and i sent shane an invitation but i could understand if hes still recovering from friday night, lol

I don't want to get into a non ped debate  Chopper is our pet dog whose breeding wouldn't be your 1st choice for hunting but he is proving himself to very good at it  as for the coursing we have entered him several times and he does a great course on his 1st run however there after he runs in a straight line to where the lure will finish  but we will keep entering in it and the hurdles too otherwise its a boring day waiting for one race  . Hopefully like you say you will be able to see a real difference in Chopper's performance at shows ;) We have missed a few shows recently,we would rather be lamping on a sat night than getting ready for a show ;) loving the thrill of watching Chops catching rabbits :teehee: Thanks for invite but it is a bit too soon for chops, maybe Mon/Tues.....he is a lot better today

So pleased chops is feeling better today. He is great to watch :) and lovely to see him use his gears now too !!

i dont know if he would or wouldnt be my choice for hunting, dont forget kats mother was a non ped and like chopper such an interesting dog to watch run,

i think when tested and if there upto the grade a working dog like chopper is a fantastic start to a dymasty or a line if you what to do that sort of thing with the puppys, lol

ive seen so called the best breeding in working lurchers work and i dont rate them all at all even had 1 from a pup a few yrs back and my mate did they wernt interesting to watch run they where to busy trying to think then they put the brakes on,lol

i dont think chopper will break as hes only thinking of one thing and its that rabbit, lol

like i say i like his style hes like kat in a way and we all know what i think of her,

By saying 'your' 1st choice i'm meaning generally people wouldn't pick a Whippet/Grey for lamping but he is exciting to watch and really nails the rabbits :teehee: You know who we want to breed Chops to in the future and fingers crossed we will have an amazing set of pups for those cold, dark, windy nights ;) Your right Chopper won't ever break, from a pup he has been obsessed with his prey (carrier bag, ball stick etc) and he will never give up :teehee: and to think hes anything like Kat makes me think i have one very special dog

Hope u cn look on w/g as not just plastic bag chasers now Mark lol. If dats all dey see. Den dats all they will chase. But show dem the real Mccoy. N they will die 4 them. Wen I was able to hunt quite a lot. I needed dogs for the job. Mainly collieXgrehounds. But now there aint need for 50 a nyt dogs. So my lot are dual purpose mate. Plastic rabbit chasers lol. Although I'm in the process of obtaining a collieXgreyhound pup atm. Who will also b a dual purpose bitch. Ie, rabbiting brood bitch. So thanx again for showing my dogs to b not just straight line bag chasers.

whippet greys make handy lamp dogs and imo are one of the best cross's for running rabbits on fast land (flat and short grass)

think we used to have a litter sister to chopper here (my lass owned her) she was brilliant on the rabbits but sadly due to circumstances we had to sell her ... id have another one of this cross if i had the room ... fizz was very strongly built for a w/g and infact i had the intensions of using her on fox (legal over here) ...

i would say any out of that litter billy bred would of made good rabbit dogs ...

cant beat a good non ped but problem is billy kat will run from 8 till 4 at the side of the landrover all night picking rabbits as will all my dogs,

chopper is learning to last longer hes got to kick them gears in and hes picking the idea up very quick or he will spend more time in the landi watching and a dog like him doesnt like watching, lol

where out tonight and will have another picture or 2 of a good haul in the morning

Never had the pleasure of a soft seat wen I used to spend all nyt lamping mate. We didn't hav big open ground we're we cud drive along n not get soaked to the skin. Rabbits we're legged in pairs and carried all nyt on a piece of bailer cord.$ which dug deep into ur shoulder,m wen the weight started piling on. Batteries we're sometimes small car ones. If we cudnt knock up a cupl motorbike batteries. We wud usualy cover 10 to 15 miles a nyt on foot. Dogs didn't just need stamina. They also had to b hard as nails. A decent wee bitch wud take dwn and retrieve 50 plus in around 2n1/2 hours. Then it was back home for a cupa, and a fresh pair of running legs. Not only did the dogs need to b hardy. Because if u weren't fit for the job. Then u didn't get out more dan once r twice a week urself. Wen rabbits we're 50p each. I used to earn around £150 + a week. But that sadly ended. So now a dog capable of big hauls of rabbits, is no longer viable. Because we cudnt use them all. N if I can't use something. Then I wudnt kill it. U on the other hand can still find an outlet 4 so many rabbits. Plus u hav a job to do for the land owners. Or loose precious permission. Maybe 1 day I'll get over for a cupl nyts with u maate. B4 its time to hang the old boots up for good. Hope uv had another good nyt mate. Take care.
