Looks to me like K9 is fast becoming a place for advertising dogs at stud...I thought this was against board rules!!!

I thought so as well. Seems like anyone can put what they like on here now.

The non ped racing Whippets have had a stud feature for quite a few years now with Nigel knowing all about it. It's purpose is for non ped racing dogs only. Not for the lucrative money making business associated with pedigree breeding.
The other matter is that these dogs that have been put forward for stud are all unproven dogs. Money isn't in the equation but preserving genetic diversity is.

Sorry, don't say pedigree breeder are into making money. It is the pet breeder who is into making money, I resent that remark. Also, why should non peds be treated differently to everyone else???????

You can resent it all you want. It doesn't make it any less true.Non peds should be treated differently. As I've already explained, the studs put forward are unproven studs therefore money isn't involved. If we wanted to make money from it we'd simply use any of the free ads websites available. It is a targeted audience to non ped owners only informing them of what studs are potentially available. You've been on this site a long time now Anne, you should know all this already but if you feel that strong about it, why not take your argument to the non ped forum, a non ped moderator or even Admin themselves?
totally agree jac, i am one of those people advertising my dog to be used at stud as i purely and simple would like to own and see his offspring run, pure and simple, im not that shallow personally to be even bothered about money for using him as the pleasure i will hopefully get from seeing his offspring run is priceless,

so you tell me what i am doing wrong with advertising that he is available for stud when nobody other than people that are close to me no this.

Perhaps this subject, ie dogs at stud, non ped only, should be included in the forum rules to avoid people making mistakes! :b

Surely anybody who sells pups is making money unless they are giving the pups away for free, whether they label themselves pedigree breeders, pet breeders or even acidental breeders?

Piglet - I think you have picked my post up wrong there. I was referring to Bertha's post, which I found quite odd in that a 'big statement' was being made, making out that only 'pedigree breeders' were honourable? Me personally, iv'e never bred any dogs and never paid more than £50 for a dog, none were 'pedigree' but all perfectly functinal and healthy

A proper breeder be it pets, show or racing make NO money at all ....... With worming, vet checks, extra worming and feeding of the bitch, pups heating, dew claws, vet check, feeding, toys, bed washing, every 2 hours house training, puppy pack, tattoo's, kc reg not to mention the time put in then no, my whole 4 litters I've never made a penny ....... Also gave pups as a stud fee as the home was right and let pup's go to people I know either free or cheaper as know the home was right for that pup and I'll see them often ....... So no ....... not easy money !!!! or should I say an expensive way to keep a pup or 2 yourself as it would be cheaper to buy in, but theres nothing nicer than breeding your own line, expensive as it is ......
