Trish or Graham can you update us on how poor Oliver is? I read on facebook that he'd been badly injured in a dog attack but haven't spotted any updates. (I'm not facebook savvie at all and only play games on it)

For those that havent heard , Oliver was attacked on sunday by a staffie type dog , it just came running at him for no reason and the 2 lads that was with it ran off , graham managed to kick the dog in the ribs so hard it ran off crying , oliver was left with a huge hole and muscle hanging out , we thought he was going to die with the blood loss :(

We rushed him to the emergency vets and was told he had a severed biscep and shreded tricep , the tricep was almost gone and if the surgery went well and he doesnt get a infection he would be left with just a limp , and so far so good , no signs of infection .

He stayed in that night and came home the next day .

Today He's doing really well and is a very chilled out dog so thats helping alot , i can see the limp the vet said he would have every so often ,well especially when he walks faster than what he should at the moment .

The drain is due to come out tomorrow but its still draining so think it will stay in till next week now .

Got to say that Leeds Emergency Vets did a brilliant job and couldnt fault them at all

Poor Oliver, I hope he continues to mend fast :huggles:

Im so sorry ...How Horrific ! My boys love a play in the Park with all the dogs they meet ..Thankfully only Frodo has met truly viscious one .He managed to flee .Took an hour to find him ! Hiding under a tree crying .

Makes me so angry ..How could anyone allow a dog off lead with that kinda temperament .

I hope the wee guy recovers well .

Best Wishes Paula

What a terrible thing to happen to Oliver

Wishing him well & fit, it is surprising how whippets heal & bounce back

Love from all The Satins

Just back from the vets and they couldnt take the drain out cause he doesnt know whats holding it in  so appointment for next wednesday for the stitches out and he hopes it will come out when he snips away , other than that its been held in by dissolvable stitches inside . Thought it a bit incompetent when he said they havent recieved any info on olivers surgery or treatment from the emergency vets

Give the Emergency vets a call Trish & ask them what's going on  Bloody hell they made enough money out of you  Hope Oliver is still healing nicely :luck:

That looks so nasty. It's a problem when our dogs are seen by different vets as the second lot don't know what's been done during the op. I've had similar problems with my dogs. We pay enough for emergency care that you'd think that it would be straight forward. I got informed by a referral vets that my dog's medical reports and x-rays weren't my property but had to be sent to the vet that referred the dog. EXCUSE ME who damn well paid for it!!!!! I was not amused particularly as I had to fight like hell to get my dying dog referred in the first place!!

Whippets are so tough and I've found that my lurchers and some of my whippets heal faster than some other types of dogs. So despite their skin being so fragile they seem to be able to heal quickly and aren't prone to infections. They are tough little buggers!

Give Oliver a gentle cuddle from all of us here.

what a bugger, if he is like his sister he will mend quick, Dixie had a similar injury recently (fight with chilli) and vet was amazed how quick she healed

Good luck :luck:

Stitches came out and some of the wound opened up again , they had stitched a part of the wound with the skin rolled in so the fur side was inside the wound , so bloody incompetent , anyway they are going to clean all the edges again and restitch up , hoping they can get that drain out too but its deep within the muscle so hope things go straight forward for him and them .

OMG Trish I missed this I don't think we are friends on facebook.

I hope that Oliver heals quickly and the drain comes out. How incompatent of the emergency vets to stich the wound with the skin rolled up and to not have informed your vet of his surgery.

I know when William went to the emergency vets and had to be PTS I rang my vets in the morning to let them, know and the emergency vets had already faxed the details through.

Jasper sends gentle get well licks to his great nephew.
