with regards to the very competitive racing lurcherworld run, namely the timed sprint between 2 beamed posts, may i ask this question, last year at 1 show i attended there was a dog ran, it covered the distance but ran on the outside of the marked beam at the finish, therefore not breaking the beam, but was still given a time, ??? how was this possible.

as everyone is aware , geoff has his computer with the times recorded , per runner at the opposite side from the public veiwing, why ???, would'nt it make more sense for you geoff, to be on the same side so joe public can see the times given are as the clock says, no i'm not saying theres anything untowards, but how come there was a time for the dog that never broke the beam, , with your integrity being put on the line geoff , do the right thing and be seen by the public, the times some are running theyre doing times pure bred greyhounds could'nt do yours den :luck: :luck: for the coming year

Having seen this happen a couple of times I asked the question and was told that the time given is a the time that the stop button is pressed on the timer if the beam isn't broken.

As to the greyhound times, I personally wouldn't expect a greyhound to do particularly well over 100yds and I saw in the results from Westhaughton that some of the lurchers were clocking greyhound equivalent times??

greyhounds that run dashes would murder any lurcher , believe me , theyre much faster , at westhoughton the lurchers times , they would struggle to do grading times at gretna ,

About time someone had a bit of sense. Stuart, i have discussed the Master McGrath distance (150 yards) with a number of lurcher people and it amazes me the amount of them who actually think the lurchers would beat the top open class sprint greyhounds over 150 yards. I remember sending Martin Tucker a pm on what he thought about it, he sent me a link for Nimbo Jack and laughed.

You are quite right denned, I know f**k all about about purpose bred greyhounds, and really don't want to know f**k all about greyhounds, that's why I'm on the "LURCHER FORUM" :- )

oooooh touchy , but as far as your reply , it was a random statement , not directed at anyone in particular , but at least you were honest enough to admit you know , nowt , lol

 I'm afraid I have to agree with Den as I'm of the opinion that there's not a true Lurcher alive that could compete with the likes of the dash dogs at Easington stadium

Thing is most of the lurchers clocking them times arent lurchers but grews with the exception of Andy...but this is being discussed on another thread.

As for the clock thing, I guess Geoff stands where it is easiest for him to see what is going on...only way to be sure of timings is to have a 'volunteer' from the crowd call them out if ya dont trust him

not sure how much they cost but maybe a screen with the clock on, (like they do for eg showjumping etc) so everyone can see the times from start to finish

 Good point Maggi, surely this is the only way to go . This way it rules out any chances of human error and would probably make the dash much more of a spectator sport and quite possibly draw in more competitors. :D

froggy , thats just what i was thinking when i started the topic , much more competition if the owners CAN SEE the screen themselves

Hows about putting a bit of faith in Jeffs integrity  instead of questioning it  if he was stood with a stop watch, then fair enough, everybody's reactions can differ, but if the dogs trigger the beam themselves, then why question it,unless you doubt his honesty.Makes you wonder why organizers bother :-

did't you read the topic--- it stated that a dog ran through the start beam , but not finishing beam ??? but still recorded a time ???? how can this happen , i'm not questioning geoffs integrity , but how did the dog deem a time when beam was'nt broken, you , explain this to me

the topic was put to see if there was a way for public veiwing so it might bring lots more entries is'nt that a good valid point, getting more competition from the general public who re-home lots of lurchers , but never try anything new to them !!!!!

I've just copied your original post on Denned, before answering you.If you were just asking the question about the dog not breaking the beam, fair enough, but you've gone on to reply to me that you weren't questioning Jeffs integrity and yet in your original post, you said Jeffs integrity is being put on the line, and also you want him sat the same side as joe public because some of the dogs are doing times greyhounds couldn't do.Now if thats not questioning his honesty,I dont know what is ????

if giving a time out is'nt good enough to question integrity what is

all i'm saying is , rather than geoff being questioned by the public , be seen so all can see , me i dont really care as i only get to a few , but last year there was lots of topics saying this n that , stop it all dead by letting the public see the clock too thats all i'm saying ------so rodders , stop turning an innocent topic into another arguement---- let geoff decide himself

Sorry you felt I was turning an innocent topic into an argument, was just putting my point of view after reading your posts Denned.Your innocent topic, didn't read so innocent to me,but quite happy to see I was wrong and that you werent questioning Jeffs integrity at all.Having known Jeff for a fair few years,i've never had to question his honesty before, and i'm glad you feel the same

thats ok , i just hope alls sorted soon

For info Jeff is trying to, and has been for a couple of years now, source a display board.

It's all to do with cost and comparability. The original timing gear was not cheap and trying to get a board to sync with this original gear is a problem.

As for Jeffs integrity, as a friend I can honestly say he can't spell it and has got no chance of saying it so that anybody without a degree in Geordie could understand it (w00t) (w00t)

Lets lighten up people and enjoy running/ racing our dogs.
