Next week I am collecting a new running pal for Milly, making 3 silkens in Scotland :))

This is Spice (Endevor Prince Valiant) at 5 months and then 6 months when both his legs and his coat have grown :D

He's lovely! Did he come from the same breeder as Milly?

Hello :D

No, not from the same breeder but he is of course related to Milly. Spice's Mum is a litter sister to Milly's Mum and his Dad is an import from the USA. He was bred by Gill Grist at Endevor hounds :)

He is very beautiful.  I really love the Silken Windhound - what height are they usually?

what height are they usually?
Between 47 - 60cm (18.5 to 23.5inches), Milly is 55cm and Spice 56.5 at the moment (7 months), he shouldn't grow more than a couple of centimetres now so will be under the maximum height :D It's quite a wide range at the moment and most silkens are at the upper end, I guess the hope is to breed them down a little more eventually :))

I thought the main breeds in the mix were whippet and sheltie. You would think sheltie would bring the size down.

Are breeders attempting to have silken windhounds develop into, be accepted as pure breed?

The foundation breeds were borzoi and long haired whippets, it's thought that the long haired whippets have sheltie somewhere in their background. Obviously having bozoi as 50% of your foundation gives the potential for larger dogs. They are an established breed already, with a closed stud book and every silken has a fully dna verified pedigree. They are accepted by various bodies now as a purebred pedigree including UKC, ASFA, and kennel clubs across the world. They competed in the FCI European dog show in Slovenia as they are recognised by the Slovenian KC.
