The Orchard County was buzzing with laughter and excitement yesterday, as the first dog show of the year took place at Annaghmore Raceway. This show was organised for Charity and run by Fiona Devlin right in the heart of apple country. With the beauty of the countryside, good company, and the sun shinning what more could we ask for on a great family day out. This was one of the largest Dog shows I have see in a very long time, and went without a hiccup. There were doggie men and women from North and South of the border all with two and three dogs in their trailer. Fiona your show was a real credit to you, and a roaring success.

The good news is Fionas Charity Dog Show raised £715 for Cancer Charity after expenses. Look how much comfort that can give a person during treatment or in the last days of their life here on this earth. Many Many thanks to every one of you who attended this show, You all contributed to this very needy cause, and of this we are all truly grateful. None of us know what tomorrow will bring. Its nice to know that there are people standing in the wings to help us out when we need it.. Thanks again for your generosity.

The Racing commenced at 1.30,

There were 90 entries for the racing at this show. This was the largest amount of dogs racing that I have ever seen at any of the shows I have been at, and I am going to shows a very long time, to long to remember. It just proved how popular this show was.

Best in Show went to one of natures gentlemen and a very well deserved Overall best in show winner, Davy Best with his beautiful Whippet Harley. Davy got the Cup for Champion Whippet, but the icing on the cake was when Liz Mc Allister presented Davy (one of his prizes for best in show) with the Eddie Mc Kinistry Shield. Fiona arranged this in the memory of Eddie who sadly past away 6 weeks ago. May he rest in peace with the Angels in Heaven, and having this shield amoungest us will keep Eddies memory alive.

The raffle took place after the show.

A gentleman won a beautiful painting, Sorry I did not get your name

Terry Metcalfe, Terence Metcalfes daughter won a beautiful basket of Doogie goodies. That family was winning all day yesterday, with little Jo Wilson, Terences daughter also, won in 2 classes. Well done Metcalfe family .

Joe Leonard won hunting nets, and delighted with his win.

Peter Morgan/Jimmy Black won a bottle of Wine

Janet Duke/ Tracy Gill won 4 bottles of wine. Some drunk and disordily in that house last night.

And finally,a big congratulations to all the class winners. Too many to mention individually, but all worthy winners. We were very lucky to on the day. We got Reserve Whippet Pup Champion, 2 seconds and 2 thirds with our Whippets. I would like to thank the Judges for doing a wonderful but difficult job in the ring. Bluebell, Billy Harpur and another photographer whom I did not get a name for, were there to capture everyones magical moment. Cant wait to see the photographs. And Fiona and all her wonderful helpers, what can I say. You did us women proud, and produced a great show with impeccable skill and organisation. For that Fiona, may I thank you and your helpers for giving us men and women in the Canine world a great and memorable day of fun and excitement with our Canine friends. You did a first class job. Looking forward to next years show already.

A real happy Canine family and a great day was had by all. Keep going Poppy, you are a real winner. You may buy a new cabinet Ann,to make room for Poppys trophys

Excellent photography, absolutely stunning, thanks for sharing.

It was a great show to start the year's events off  We had a lovely day with all our dogs either winning or being placed in their various classes. Very proud of our veterans, Alfred who made a come back after not having been at a show for many years - winning the veteran lurcher class aged 14 and Tia, a youngster by comparison, winning veteran whippet aged 8.

The highlight of the day for me was our beautiful blue girl, Flash winning the whippet bitch class and then going onto win Reserve Whippet Champion. Thanks Derek for taking some lovely photo's of her !! ;)
