Those who read the Derby write up in W News, will know the in's and out's already.....

money sponsorship can't be found so the camping proceeds are given back to the racers competing....

unless I win the lottery beforehand of course x

It seems so easy to not trust the people who do things for whippet racing.

I have organised the Derby since 1997, and every penny goes back into each event, anyone who runs a big event knows it takes a lot of organising....

sometimes I wonder why I (we) bother at all!!!!!

The sport can do without the bickering, it only puts everyone off and it isn't nice to listen to....back-biting and pulling people down who work is so hard is just so unnecessary xxx

making £85 yes its upto members if they want to go to derby or fordy or both events if they can afford it, i would think if your committee did the same as last year and just went for fordy weekend you will all only be paying £35 same as last year

BY THE WAY I FIND STEVE WILLIAMS COMMENTS AND INSINUATIONS TOTALLY UNCALLED FOR AND DISGUSTING, I HOPE DOREEN SLAPS A WRIT ON HIM
 
All I can say on this matter is to date we have 34 caravans booked in 33 have indicated that they want to stay for the 12 days

One camper has indicated they only want to stay for the Derby 5 days.

Each one knows the costs of their lenghth of stay and have paid a £5 non returnable deposit off the total amount.

This £5 deposit from each caravan & £5 deposit from each tent will be handed over to the Fordingbridge Town Council.

This ensures that if anyone needs to cancel for one reason or another the Town Council are assured of their money.

We at Fordingbridge Wrc feel that this is only right and proper as the Town Council have been more than helpful to us as a whippet

club especially this year with the problems on the track and the condition that the camping area was in after all that dreadful weather.

So this year 2012 £5 of every £50 for a caravan and £5 for every tent was paid to the council, Also £5 from every £35 for a caravan at the NNWRF/Fordy event and £5 for every tent was paid to Fordingbridge Town Council

So at the end of the day each camper can make their own decision as to how long they would like to camp, and everyone will be made very welcome

well I can't help it if you can't understand it I can't spell it out any clearer its getting boring Ive more interesting things to be doing like cutting the lawn with nail scissors

you lot have to many holidays but to me it seems a very good price for a holiday and abit of wot you all love racing

The NNWRF have ran a golden jacket at fordingbridge for a lot of years now and this was always Linda that committed herself to going down and running the open along with the fordingbridge members which the NNWRF where truly grateful.

Myself and Gary as well as other NNWRF committee could never commit yearly to attending this open due to work commitments etc...

However when Chris approached us about moving our regular date of the golden jacket to coincide with the derby and possibly the ibm to make a ten day event I never thought it was a great idea, Simply as running 3 classic events over two weekends might affect entries esp over the second weekend as the golden jackets we have held there never gets a large amount of dogs running although it has increased the past few years.. This is just opinion no one else’s...

Personally I don’t think £85 is expensive for a 10 day holiday its its only £8 a day, however I do feel it’s very unfair to hold a prestigious event like the English derby south again it was my understanding that this event would be moved around the country yearly when possible giving everyone a chance to attend it at some point..I for one love fordingbridge and hope we can attend at least one of the weekends but cannot commit atm

Forgot to say :

Although it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to work out what Linda was saying last year’s golden jacket was not part of the derby event hence why there was 2 separate camping fees

yes in theory moveing the english derby every year but that has not happened for quite a long time.

last year not sure how many places would have wanted to accomadate the event as when we

left the camping area was completely ruined due to the rain and caravans you have to consider

this 1st fordingbridge must have avery understanding council secondly we do have the scottish

derby in the north seem to remember there use to be a NNWRF event there at one time
 
Weather can affect any event I remember camping in snow a seaham ..So is the English derby now the southern derby ?

You are correct about the open we held at Scotland we were sorry to drop the open but was asked to cut back on our opens, so as the open was an additional it was the one we decided to drop

I understand that there really aren’t many tracks that can accompany camping event and as my post said moved around when possible, where other venues approached about holding the derby next year ? ive said my piece i am not getting into any slagging match .. I am not saying anything diffrent than i did when the derby 1st went to devon as i said IMO

Not a slanging match just makeing the point that whatever the weather whoever shoulld hold the

derby would also have to consider the worst as happened last year

i agree that the derby should if poss be moved around but also understand that this needs money to do so, without sponsorship like the scottish derby or a understanding Town Council like Fordingbridgehow can it be moved and if so where will the money come from ??

think you mean this year,the derby was in Devon last year !!! next year the derby and the fordy week of racing are still separate, why is that so hard to understand and as such why its still 2 separate lots of camping fee,

Because i am asking a question please don't take it that i'm knocking the organisers or questioning their ability.

It's common sense that if the Derby is held in a location that is amenable to everyone (central) there would be more entries = more entry money = less sponsorship needed for payout.

Although i haven't read details of payout this year i presume from what i can grasp of what Doreen / Chris have said is that out of caravan money from the first part of the holiday (£50 per caravan) - £45 of that will go towards sponsorship of the Derby? If Fordingbridge have 42 caravan spaces that's £1890 back towards payout plus whatever the amount of tents. So when I asked what was being done to boost entries for next year, are you saying that the answer is that payout will be increased?

If that’s the case then I can see that going a long way to attracting more people and also I can’t see anyone begrudging the high caravan money.

With regards to sponsorship, I can understand that you can’t get one big sponsor of money in the current financial climate but I believe in the Derby’s early years football cards were done at events leading up to it, this is something that could possibly still work? Or maybe smaller donations could be asked for like other events do.

From my understanding of the payout for the Derby Vicky you are correct, the more caravan money that is taken the greater the payout, I don't know how it worked out when it was in Devon, or where the prize money was made up from but I do know that after holding it at Fordy for the first time this year Chris was relieved to know that there would be finances available to give the amount of prize money that she wanted to , that way the racers got something back which probably helped to offset the cost of their holiday.

Perhaps if she had reassurances from other clubs that all camping monies would be available to go to the payout, then she probably would consider moving it around the country.

I know that for the dates next year Chris looked into when the childrens school holidays were to try to make it easier for parents to bring their children to the Derby, but the later on in the summer months that she looked into started to clash with other clubs camping events, ie. Scotland, A& T Miners, and possibly some of the dates for the two major racing bodies. I really don't know what the answer is to be able to please everyone
