Hi all, I'm new here and looking forward to talking to people who love dogs as much as I do! We recently lost our beloved terrier and all I can think about since losing him is getting another dog. We really miss a doggy presence in the house! This week I am going to see a dog for sale which the owner says is a Cavachon. However, he does not look much like the pictures that come up if you Google the breed. He has the cream/golden colouring but his ears are not as long and his nose is longer (the cavachon looks more rounded). I am beginning to wonder if he could be more of a terrier (he looks like one). Does anyone know if there is a wide variety of the appearance of the breed? I still think he looks gorgeous whatever he is, but I would not be happy if they were trying to pass him off as something he is not, iyswim!

Phone/camera upstairs though:mad:

Hi and welcome to the forum from Rocky and me. This isn't a breed I'm familiar with, sorry

Hi, it is a cross between a Cavalier King Charles spaniel and a Bichon Frise - however this one looks more like a terrier!

Hi, you are talking about a cross (cavalier x bichon) not a breed. There is no 'standard' for this type of cross as the appearance, size temperament etc could be quite random even amongst the litter mates; ie. they could look all cavalier, all bichon, or if you are lucky somewhere in between.

Please bear in mind that although some people ( and probably the breeder of the litter you are looking at) will try to tell you that x breeds are healthier than pedigrees, sadly this isnt always the case. You need to google both breeds in this cross and bear in mind what health issues a pup from this cross might suffer (for example, cavaliers should be heart tested)

If you are happy with his appearance and only want him as a pet then that is fine. Make sure he is at least 8 weeks before he leaves mum. Eating solid foods is not a sign that they are ready to leave their mum; they are still very much a baby - they need to learn "doggy" skills from mum and siblings which a human (however dedicated they are) cannot substitute. I would insist on seeing the pups in the nest with their mum, too. Good luck :)

Hi pippywhippet, thanks for your advice. The pup I am going to visit is already 9 months old. They say that both parents were seen on collection - I will find out how old he was when they got him as I know that they should be 8 weeks. Here is a picture of him. Do you think he could be a cavachon? x
