Hello folks,

At the moment im feeding my dog raw meat but now and then when im having steak or other cooked meat she is looking up at me for a bit of my grub,I used to give her some but been told that if she is on the raw diet then I shouldn't give her cooked meat as this is bad for her guts, is this true? thanks in advance

Is this gonna be one of them sites where hundreds of people look at the post but cant be bothered to actually give any advice? lol, I thought this forum was meant to be for dog owners that either need advice or can give advice ect, I take it no one knows about dog keeping on this site?

ha! there are indeed many watchers.....

i feed my dog all sorts: raw, complete biscuits, tinned stuff, fish etc... this is thought of quite badly by keen raw feeders as the body takes a wee bit longer to digest raw stuff, and so constantly swapping supposedly disrupts the "rythmn" that the guts get into, and gives them the runs or whatever... Mine seems fine on it though, no bad tummy, firm poos etc

Any dog is going to appreciate a bit of your steaky table scraps, I reckon that it is totally fine to give him the odd bit of cooked meat. If you are worried, give him some then await the results, it may or may not put you off giving him it again...

I think if your dog is healthy and fit, then feed it whatever you like to keep him that way,

good luck, photo please!

Thats great Hanneroon,

Thanks alot for taking the time to reply, i'll post a pic of her in a min, she's a lovely little thing,we absolutely love her to bits, she is a bit of a character, and also looks a bit different cos she has an undershut jaw, her teeth are on show all the time, she looks a bit weird really but she's lovely lol

Actually it's the opposite - the raw food and bone is digested more quickly and it's believed the processed food holds it all up. However I'm like you in that we mix it up and our girls are healthy. We have a raw meal and a complete meal (with a small topping of raw). If you are in the 'no complete food at all' camp, there is still nothing at all wrong with giving a bit of cooked meat aside from the fact that it has less nutrients than raw meat.

At the end of the day think about all the junk we put into our own bodies. And heck no matter how hard you try think of the junk our dogs manage to scarf up on a walk.

However I would qualify this by saying don't encourage begging at the table as it's a bad habit to get into. We usually save a few piece for the end of the meal. Or if we're at the in-laws they used to make the girls their own tiny plates of whatever meal we were having ROFL.

I can only agree, since we had our first dog, many years ago, some how or other we started saving her a small bit of whatever we were having from a meal which she got in the kitchen when we took the plates in. It took her a very short time to learn so she followed us in for it, then getting in before us. As we added other dogs each quickly learned. I will add that we never had a problem with any begging at the table but as soon as we stood up they rushed to get into the kitchen before us. My present two, a Whippet and a Shih Tzu carry on the tradition.

Hi there, I have had a few dogs and I always cooked their meat as their stomach didn't stand raw meat. The one I had last lived till seh was 14 and was healthy until 13 years when she got diabetes and became blind.

My dogs also loved human food and I thought she would become a vegetarian as she loved all sorts of veg and fruit. They never begged either. Of course if you give human food, it doesn't have the same nutrition as dogs need so used to buy some vitamins and added some in their food (can't remember what as my latest dog died 2 years ago :( )

I once tried a real bone from butchers and that made their stomach very runny so never gave them again.

I also think dog are very different so it is very hard to say what to do and I can only talk from my own experience.
