Older dog may need a friend

Our cab King Charles is 8 - lovely temperament. Thinking of getting a puppy and want them to be friends, thinking of a male puglier, any advice?

Yeah my advice is that older dogs need peace and quiet not a lunatic puppy running him ragged but thats just my opinion..

i think a pug cavalier cross is proably a bit unadvisable, as a cav owner you will know about the mvd they all suffer from to some degree, and the deformities of skull, eye problems etc etc, add that to the multitude of pug problems and the chances of buying a poorly dog are quite high. Also it is pretty much fact that the backyard breeders of such crosses aren't neccessarily worried about the future health and strength of the pups, but more about the cash... you rarely see adverts for such crosses with full health check of both parents supplied.

Although some older dogs do respond well to having a younger dog around to liven them up a bit and help them 'rediscover their youth' or whatever, i agree with lurcherman in that older dogs don't neccesarily need an annoying puppy around in their old age. I would consider getting a rescue dog that is closer in age to your dog, that way you get to see if the temperament of both dogs is compatible, and you will be saving one of the thousands of dogs in rescue centres...
