Hi, can anyone offer some advice please?? I have 2 dogs, H who is 20 month old Doberman had since 8 weeks no problems. Poppy rescue 11 months old fostered all her life in a house with many other dogs adopted by me 1 month ago. pretty good with other dogs off the lead a bit yappy but not nasty, comes back when called but the problem is on the lead, when she sees another dog she goes absolutely bonkers barking and lunging pulling my arm off. H has now taken to copying her which is causing us a major problem. i cant walk past i have to wait trying to hold both of them till the other dogs passes. any ideas???

Hi Star

Firstly your DOG NEEDS PACK STRUCTURE BEFORE OBEDIENCE TRAINING

After 1 month of the dogs being with you i do not believe he has yet established the pack structure of the family.

The vast majority of dogs do not want to be pack leaders. They are much more comfortable when someone else becomes a pack leader and they are happiest when this job is taken by their owner.

Once a dog accepts a pack leader, that dog becomes calm and submissive. The dog knows his new pack leader will take care of all of life's needs. He understands his leader feeds him, waters him, exercises him, and protects him from stray dogs and bad people. The dog learns that guests to the home are the pack leader's guests and not intruders or people for the dog to either play with or become aggressive towards.

I strongly recommend you get some one to come and assist you as the problem will only get worse.

I am pretty new to this forum and quite frankly have not made any contact. I am not however not new to dogs and have a wide experience of breeds and currently own three dogs, a 10 year old ex coursing lurcher, a five year old "Designer dog" I always say a pug at one end and a shih Tzu at the other, having pedigree Pug father and pedigree Shih Tzu mother, also a three year old Springer spaniel. All are rescue dogs. I help out with a rescue in Yorkshire.

If you are wanting advice, it is quite natural for pups to go bonkers when seeing other dogs. If Poppy is still a puppy it needs socialization. If of course it is a mature dog then it has just not had it.

Dogs meeting other dogs is the most important thing - absolutely essential. Failure to do so means you are almost certain to make a very unhappy dog, which could mean big trouble.

I have absolutely no idea what happens at this forum. I would be happy to share my knowledge with anyone, but need to be contacted. michdwyandpack

DOGS DO NOT FORM A PACK WITH HUMANS!

Everything you wrote there does not make any sense at all.

Please explain to me the science behind your method? How do you know that they NEED a pack structure.

If they were still a wolf.. then yes.. but they are not.

They are completely aware that we are a different species and will not form a pack with us.

The dog will be calm and submissive if we are calm and a good leader... not pack leader. Its just like being good parent.

I strongly recommend you read a bit about the science of dogs!
