We have 5 dogs, 2 yorkies , an aging terrier of mixed parentage, a Maltese cross and Wally our latest , a shih-tzu/poodle cross . His arrival has upset the balance in the house. he has grown bigger than we expected and although now over 2 yrs old is still really boisterous. The first three dogs live indoors and spend most of their time with us. They are not a problem. Wally and Ben the Maltese live in the utility room and poor Ben is jumped on. Occasionally he retaliates and we have a free-for-all.We would have Benny in the house more often but do not want to leave Wally on his own. Suggestions please.

try fencing off rooms or using baby stair-gates.

have you tried seeking help from the vet or local animal practitioner?

if you haven't then you should maybe ask for help, as this is a tricky topic.

hope this helps...

A poodle is a very clever dog and I would think the crosses are equally as clever . I wouldn't think it would be a good idea for such an intelligent dog to live in a utility room .My poodle would go insane in these circumstances . She is 6 now and still extremely lively .

My advice is get the 2 in the utility room into the main house and give the poodle cross something to occupy him .

Thanks for your comments. Don't get me wrong. We only live in a bungalow and our utility room is next to the kitchen. It has a glass door so we can be seen and we already use baby gates. The back door is usually open unless it's chucking it down so they can go out in the garden at will. He is walked a couple of times a day , usually about a mile and a half and has toys to play with.We have spoken to the vet and they simply suggest we are patient until he's older and calms down a bit.

Maybe try interactive puzzle toys to keep him amused, or taking the poodle x to agility or dog training classes to tire him out and stimulate his brain so that he is more tired at home and hopefully give the others peace, :luck:
