Hi I am new to the forums and am looking for some serious advice and help!

We have a 9 month old lab and 5 month old beagle the lab as expected is obedient generally calm but is a puppy so keen to play and be boisterous at times particularly social with other dogs. The beagle again typical beagle obedient when she chooses which is most of the time but more hyper than the lab but typical puppy.

Both have been to obedience classes and done fine like i say generally well behaved for young pups.

The problem I have is walking them together I really struggle ( alone or seperately should I say they walk perfect to heel and listen to me) together they hardly listen, pull, are more hyper particularly the beagle and of course the lab is strong now to be coping with pulling etc when also trying to control the beagle. I guess this has to do with feeding off each other's energy or some pack behaviour but any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

hellooo!! i have exactly the same issue with my two dogs, maybe it would be worth having a one to one class with the teacher you were with before and take the two dogs together, i find sometimes that its best to seek like professional help as you cant be enjoying the walks yourself if they are both like this when walking them together, the only thing i could suggest keep dog treats in your pocket/hand and give them then when they dont pull so then they might focus there attention on you a little more, sorry i cant help you more J x

Thanks for the reply your right they aren't enjoyable to walk together sometimes I think that's part of the problem they maybe sense my anxiety, though some walks are successful. I also thought the same re the one to one, it will be me making the mistakes I just can't see what they are without an expert. Thank you so much for the reply it's helpful to see someone else is thinking along the lines that I possibly was and that I'm not alone! :)

How did you end up with 2 pups? Training 1 at a time is hard enough work. I would never, ever consider getting pups with at least 2 years between.

Hi,

Just an update to let you know it's actually improved with the pups, well up to 2 weeks ago things were fine we now have 2 in season so purely doing Obedience training at home and garden exercise which thankfully is large enough for fetch and chase etc. Considering they are so young I've come to realise how well they have done together and relaxed more into walking them together, don't get me wrong they have their moments but on the whole we went back to basics and stopped allowing any pulling just by standing still or turning around when they pulled. It's a work in progress and after having 2 senior dogs it's hard work.

We spoke to the dog trainer and were going to do one to one until the seasons started so we will soon resume walking together and continue the training. Thanks for your interest .
