We have recieved some sad news tonight, that Alfie Barnard had passed away today at the age of 69 years old. He will be dearly missed by all of his Family and close whippet racers.

He was the back bone of Maidstone and mid Kent WRC for many years, and will be sadly missed by any body that was connected with whippet racing. Alf was one of the true charactors of whippet racing of many years, he certainly was a one off.

We are truely blessed we knew him personally, as a very good friend, and he helped us in the early years of whippet racing and will never be forgotton,

Our thoughts are with Jill and her Family. R.I.P.Alfie.

Tina and Colin......Thanks for the post.

How very sad - Alf probably had less than a couple of years of retirement , and when last seen at the back end of last season seemed to be in good spirits and enjoying himself. Could not be encouraged back to racing though.

Would endorse everything already said about the contribution Alf made to pedigree whippet racing in Kent. Always active, always encouraging, always full of wit, knew the rule book by heart, and woe betide anyone who dared transgress.

That deep throated growl will be missed.

Losing such stalwarts as Joy and Alf in such a short space of time leaves Kent racers bereft.

RIP Alf

Never really knew Alf, only of his reputation and the service he gave to Whippet Racing. Even to this day we still are reaping the rewards of all his hard work at Maidstone (now Honeyhills). Our condolences to his family.

Dave, Sandra and the Markamy's.

We are very sad to hear of the death of Alf. His very recognisable voice on the PA at Maidstone was a real part of Whippet Racing history. Our sincere condolences to Jill and her family.

Very sad to hear the death of Alf. He was a true racer full of character. So many memories of the old Maidstone ..... Alf knew everything about racing and gave so much to the sport. He truly will be missed.

My thoughts are with Jill and her family.
