Hello all

My 4yr old English Cocker has recently developed a small patch on his back which, when gently scratched causes a sort of spasm / flinch. But this does not appear to bother him, in fact if I give him a good scratch in that area his back leg starts kicking.

Is this common and is it the start of something to be concerned about?

Thanks, Joe

Hiya Its normal/common, he just has an itch, maybe a bite or a patch of dry skin or a wee mat in his coat, my youngest does the same when you give him a good scratch his back leg joins in (I say he is trying to kick start his motorbike!!)

I've read various reports which say that this is a subconscious irritation, like the spots on their belly that make their legs twitch, and that we should never deliberately make them twitch because they don't like it. Molly doesn't seem bothered by it in the least though :)

It may bge a hotspot, my dog had something similar and I added Salmon Oil to his food, just a teaspoon every day and the irritationwent, as a bonus his coat looks amazing!

Thanks for the replies. The problem seems to have disappeared as quick as it came. No idea what it was, but fortunately it didn't seem to bother him.
