Barking help!

hi! In desperate need of some help! I have an 8 year old Lhasa apso, he's always been around with previous partners I've had and always been sleeping on the end of my bed but I have now recently got with a new partner, she stays round mine a couple of times a week or I will stay round hers with her little dog. Problem is I have made a conscious decision to keep him out of the bedroom for various reasons but overnight he just seems to bark and bark and bark. It's becoming a real problem, affecting sleep and making my new partner get very down. He will be absolutely fine if we are sitting on the sofa, but then go to bed, even though he has her dog around him, and he just becomes a nightmare. His bark is so loud also. We have had complaints from neighbours both ends. He has always been quite a naughty, barking loud dog especially when he's let in garden. I just don't know what to do!!
