Hello,

I am worried about my dogs at night, usually my mum puts them to bed about 10.30/11ish however she is on holiday this week. I suffer from insomnia so need to go upstairs early to ensure i go to sleep.I have been putting them to bed at about 8.30, they have to loads of space to roam the kitchen/conservatory/dining room and have been getting up between 7-8.30. I take them for there walks and play with them during the day. Is there any harm to this? It is only going to be for a week

My dogs adjust very quickly to new routines and timings when people come in to look after them when we're on holiday, or if we go for a weekend (or longer) visit. The only issue may be that they may be used to relieving themselves a couple of hours later than you are leaving them, so they may have a bit of trouble holding it all night. So just make sure you've given them plenty of opportunities to do so before you go upstairs. If they have an evening tea you may want to move it an hour earlier to give their systems time to process it before bedtime.

Hope this helps.

Great advice, I was worrying about bed times but its good to know the dogs adjust if things do change :)

Dogs aren't very good at telling the time, so I wouldn't worry about it. Start your routine as you mean to go on and just make sure that they have plenty of chance to go to the loo before you go up to bed. They'll be fine, and the whole experience will be less stressful for them than being put in a kennel or having a house sitter that they don't know :)
