Nightly walks and wees in winter!

Hi - I am the lady who wrote in about my 4 yr old greyhound weeing through the night.

Just thought I would give an update and also bring up something else. We are letting our little lady out just before we go upstairs ourselves at night. She still gets me up in the night, which I have now got used to so is fine as I think it is just her routine. I am a bit worried though as we take for an evening walk, between 7-8 o'clock as well now so she can sort herself out.

but .... Now the nights have drawn in and are becoming colder and especially since firework night she is very unwilling to go outside after dark - even to the point of getting trembly and shaky and running back upstairs! When I do get her to go out after dark she will not go to the loo. It is funny but when she goes with my boyfriend she will go to the loo - maybe because he is a bit more stubborn himself and takes her out in the dark whereas I worry about her being too frightened. Also I am worried that she will be bursting through the night if she doesn't have a poo last thing!!

I am going to try some Bach flower rescue remedy on her - I have read these are very good for emotional problems like fear of noises, situations so think it may be ideal for her. Does anyone have any experience or knowledge of these remedies?

Just as a quick thought, have you heard of a product called a thunder shirt? It is the equivalent of a tight fitting dog coat / blanket which is recommended for dogs that have issues around anxiety or extreme nervousness. The theory behind the thunder shirt is that it's tight, body fitting style replicates the dog being in the womb, offering the dog a feeling of security and reducing its stress levels. As with all products, it's a case of try it and see. It may offer some relief for your dog but it can't be guaranteed. You may also find that a combination of approaches are needed.

My five year old greyhound needs to be let out at mid-night every night, or I have a wet carpet in the morning. He has a long walk at night, around 8.30 to 9pm, and wees on just about every blade of grass and every tree, yet still wets the floor if he doesn't get let out at twelve. Any reasons why, or better still, any solutions. I was half an hour late last night, wet floor this morning!
