Opinions?? I like to hear others opinions on things and he seems to be able to split opinion well....

I saw a horrendous video of a lab resource guarding her food. She couldn't have given him clearer 'i'm stressed, back off' signals if she'd spoken in English. She gave all the very clear body language cues and still he kept invading her space. Eventually she snapped and bit him. He said 'i didn't see that coming'. REALLY? Everybody else did. So that in itself is bad. But I heard she was euthanised because of it and it is heartbreaking because it was so avoidable. I heard he was changing and adopting positive training but now there is the controversy about the pig in the USA. I haven't seen the footage but understand he is being investigated for alleged animal cruelty.

I have seen several videos of him being cruel to animals. The latest one is where he is trying to teach a dog to stop chasing some pet pigs. He has the dog on a long slip lead to start with. The dog is avoiding the pigs. This is not good tv so he lets the dog off the lead. The dog still avoids the pigs. At this point one of his assistants grabs one of the pigs by a back leg. The pig starts to scream and the assistant hangs on grimly. The dog, of course, reacts and charges after the pig. The next footage is like a farce. The dog is chasing the pig and Cesar is chasing the dog. He does manage to catch the dog occasionally and he tries to Alpha role it.

As usual he misses all the clear signals the dog gives off that it is stressed by the situation it has been put in.

The worst I saw of him was when he was called to, what was described as, a Wolf Dog. It was a large dog with some husky type blood and looked very intimidating. The dog was accused of biting people. Cesar walked the dog a little way and it seemed to be enjoying itself. This was boring tv so he decided to side kick the dog in the ribs. The dog then jumped up and grabbed at his arm. The dog's body language was one of play. It did, however, tear his shirt and graze his arm. Cesar proceeded to string the dog up by its choke chain with its legs off the ground. The film was cut. The next clip shows the dog lying prone on the ground with Cesar standing proudly over it. The dog's lips were blue and there was a pool of urine underneath it. A vet commented, later, that the dog appeared close to death. The camera kept zooming in on the injury that Cesar had sustained from the dog jumping up at him. I have watched the footage several times (it was on National Geographic but may have been removed by now) and can only describe the dog as overly boisterous.

I think that Cesar Milan started out with some empathy with dogs but has been taken over by the money machine. He has to keep providing video footage of quick fixes in order to satisfy his backers. He was invited to attend some positive training seminars but did not turn up. His UK tour was cancelled after he was interviewed by Alan Titchmarsh and could not explain why he punches dogs on the nose.

What saddens me is that there are people who see a dog's undesired behaviour stopping. So on the surface it looks like his techniques achieve results. The 'bad' behaviour is gone. But his dominating methods just drive it underground, it's suppressed rather than resolved. I explain it to some people by suggesting they have something really important to tell me. I don't like the message so every time they start to speak i turn on a really loud siren to drown them out. They eventually stop trying to talk to me. Result. I don't hear the message. But the important message is not delivered, and they are frustrated because they really need me to know this thing. And of course that frustration could boil over and they might have a tantrum. Sorry if that oversimplifies it!

That is a good explanation JoanneF. The Wolf Dog one haunts me. That dog is going to have issues around people for the rest of his life after nearly being strangled to death.

The trouble is that people want quick fixes. All the top behaviourists will not make fly on the wall documentarys because most of the hard work that goes into changing a dog's behaviour ends up on the cutting room floor.

I have seen the pig video/read about it but not the wolf dog one.....doesn't sound good though! I am not a fan of his.

If you have Facebook, check out Foul Mouthed Fido - she has a great cartoon at the minute involving a dog and a bacon sandwich - very on point!

This man is a dangerous idiot who needs to have a restraining order preventing him from ever going near an animal again..then as punishment he should have several days with an electric collar, a prong collar and a slip lead ..and everytime he behaves like a human they should be used with the same forces he uses them !!

The domance theory has be proven to be a load of rubbish ..dogs are not trying to be dominant over us ..neither should they be trained with physical punishment ..for being scared ! Most dogs that have problems are either problems due to a specific fear or problems due to bad training..either way the idiot is punishing these animals for something that is no their fault..he is a despicable man in my humble opinion ..xx

C'mon Raven - say it like it is - no need to sit on the fence lol! I don't disagree but (no defence) I have heard he has been changing his approach. Sadly I suspect it's more about tv ratings than animal welfare. Anyone know the outcome of the cruelty investigation?

I don't know sorry..but any man who can string a dog up by its neck so it wees itself and its lips turn blue ..and regularly kicks and pokes them shouldn't be allowed near animals..he has no formal training ..he used to be a dog walker ..no behaviour training at all !

Raven, I agree - my comment was tongue in cheek. Thankfully many people are aware his methods are outdated and wrong; sadly many are not.

I knew your comment was tongue in cheek hun..but just the mere mention of his name and flames appear out my nose and ears !! Sooo many people blindly follow him..dog lovers ..people who really do love their dog ..just blinded by the fact he has a tv show ! I am not a violent person..but honestly .put me in a room with him ...lolol..well it would make great tv!

I'm sure I read the other day that he is being investigated now, possibly after the 'pig incident'. Hopefully it will have an outcome that will make him change his ways.

Pity that people got so easy selling themself to an advertisements..

Caesar definitaly has some experience in dogs obedience training, but personally I'd not allow him to teach my dog anything

And I do think exactly, like somebody already mentioned here - moneyball has got his good intentions long time ago... pity that most of his customers does not feel it yet

Admin..has my comment been edited???. I'm pretty sure I didn't write 'put me in a room with him and it would make great tv' ..!!!

In fact I know I didn't write that. !!

That's a pretty sorry state of affairs raven oaktree. If your post has been edited in such a way that's really not on. We are after all trying to get the forum going as a viable source of help and information for people.

He's a legend, I try certain things he's done and it's worked for me, some dogs need correction,

The man is dangerous. He has no formal training and there is an 'on going cruelty case going on after he pulled a husky up by his neck ..then of course there was the pig incident..

Corrected more dogs than most had hot dinners,, I like him tbh but your view is your view.

All entiltled to our own opinion, that's what keeps life intresting.

:)
