Alfie has had staples in for nine days now. There is a patch that looks a bit sore but not infected. Would sudocrem be ok to put on it?? I have used it in the past when he had a sore leg. A surgical staples site might be different though.

We had a vet many years ago who said that creams attract dirt and dust to stick to them, maybe a nice weak salt rinse would be best.

i have had success with sudocrem and am currently using it on a particularly nasty pressure sore caused by a splint on a broken leg. i have in the past used a saline solution spray to clean superficial scrapes although i would now use hibiscrub.

I think the difference is between open wounds and skin problems. Open wounds might be better with salt solution, whereas skin problems are fine with sudocreme?

Thank you for your help. The salty water seems to be easing things. Fingers crossed the staples come out tomorrow and we can get back to normality. He is desperate to be off the lead and playing with his friends again.

The vet might recommend a treatment for the skin.
