Bichon Frise
The Bichon Frise is actually originally Spanish and was used as sailing dogs. But when the French took over this gentle breed became a lap dog species. The breed became popular with nobility and King Henry III was so fond of his Bichons that he carried them wherever he went in a special basket that hung from his neck!
Life span: 12-15 years
Height: males and females 22-27cm
Weight: males 3-5kg and females 3-5kg
The Bichon Frise is cheerful, full of love and lots of mischief! To make them your best companion obedience training is recommended. Don’t be tempted to overprotect because they are cute and small as this may lead them to become shy and fearful. It’s up to you to build their confidence. Grooming is a must and be prepared to pay for someone professional but be careful they are prone to skin problems and allergies.
Health Checks
If you intend to buy a puppy you must find a good breeder who can show you health clearances from BOTH of the puppies parents.
The health checks are:
Eye disease - Hereditary cataract; Multiocular defects (MOD) (litter screening); Progressive retinal atrophy (PRA) (gradual loss of sight) (annual testing)

Bladder Problems - Bladder stones and infections are not uncommon in this breed.
Allergies - Known for being sensitive to flea bites. They can also be prone to contact allergies and food allergies.
Vaccination sensitivity - Many can suffer from routine vaccinations. Symptoms can include hives, facial swelling, soreness and lethargy.
