How often do you walk your dog(s)?

Mine are walked once or twice a day - every day.
 
Twice a day every day, an hour plus each time. If I didn't, he's not the sort of dog who'd quietly sigh and go back to sleep, or find a toy to entertain himself;)
 
Every day. Sometimes he'll have just one big walk and other days he may get two smaller walks! He's 10 now so isn't so fussed about big walks anymore. He spends most of his time sniffing whilst I just stand there and wait for him to catch up!
 
I walk mine everyday , they get 2 walks an hour during the day and usually half an hour at night with it being the winter I'm limited to where we can go safely in the dark. Lighter nights mean longer walks.
 
We usually have two walks a day; one if it's been a particularly long walk. But i came across this article the other day which people might find interesting. It was written by Emma Judson who is the cartoon character Foul Mouthed Fido's 'Drawing Person'. Worth checking out her cartoons which are very insightful as well as funny but do be aware Foul Mouthed Fido is called that for a reason. The article linked below contains no strong language though!

To Walk or Not To Walk
 
We have a 14 week old puppy who initially HATED walking. We had such a battle to get a lead on her and actually get her out of the door. We carried her initially to make her feel safe and secure and often just sat by the door watching the comings and goings!! Slowly but surely we are getting further each day. In the morning she walks between 15-30 mins before I go to work. She doesn't enjoy going out at lunch time as it's so hot here, even in Winter. (We live in Saudi) so I just take her out for fresh air for 10 mins and we come straight back in. Then in the evening we take her for another walk for around 30-50 mins. Does this sound ok for a pup? The longer evening walk has really curtailed her craziness during the "Witching Puppy Hour!!!" and she is zonked and is much calmer in the evening now!
 
That's quite a long walk for a puppy. The recommendation is five minutes per month of age, as their bones and joints are still not developed. That is for lead walking, on hard surfaces - they can have play and mad half hour over and above that!
 
Harri gets around a 90 minute walk each morning, mostly off lead (well currently on a long line as he's developed a severe case of selective deafness where recall is concerned)

If he's driving me mad in the afternoon he may get a second short walk. When the days get longer I expect my partner will start to take him late afternoon when they get home.
 
Three times a day, every day, at roughly the same time using a combination of local routes. In the better weather, we try and go further afield.

Oh- I had no idea. She seems happy to walk that long.
I will keep an eye on her and see how to gets on. Thanks.

It's more of a problem with some breeds than others - larger dogs particularly. I'm not that worried about my terrier pup regarding walks but I did discourage jumping off things when he was little. I'd lift him up and down from my lap and would never encourage him to leap in the air after a toy. I'm still careful about it now even though he's 6 months old. He can manage the sofa with no effort but I'm careful where I walk him so he doesn't try to jump off rocks or walls.
 
Yes, bigger dogs do have more bone and joint issues - the problem is you might not actually see evidence of damage until later when they risk early development of problems like arthritis.

Yes that is impressive. I'm sure the dog loves it :) I'd like to do the same but when the weather is bad I find the one walk is quite enough! I may be Welsh but the rain loving gene has skipped my generation....

well not really but I wake up at 5ish and walk until 7ish in the morning, then when I get back from work I walk olive for 2 hours again but because she has given birth recently I cant walk her far because she doesn't want to she puts on her brakes

haha.... yes I hate walking in the rain but olive loves it!:)

That is an early start o_O May I ask what breed she is, and how old are the puppies? Must be a busy time for you, do you think you will keep one?

She's a Miniature Schnauzer the puppies are a week old exactly... yes very busy... we will be keeping the only bitch Doris Thanks!

I love walking with my dogs ......... but like you, rain is my big no no! My feet go on auto-pilot and refuse to walk out the door! :eek:
