Fortunate event 1. I was later going out with Timber because I needed to strip the bed and put the laundry in the machine.

Fortunate event 2. Timber usually gets to choose whether we go right at the gate for the beach (which he does 9 times out of 10) or left for the fields. Today, unusually, he chose the field.

Fortunate event 3. On our way we met a friend coming the opposit opposite direction and stopped to chat for several minutes.

As we carried on along the traffic free path, a greyhound who was adopted about 6 months ago by an elderly gentleman (and experienced greyhound owner) ran across our path full tilt from another one, crossing us left to right, and up a path leading to a housing estate. We know them quite well so I recognised her straight away.

Fortunate event 4. I ran after her calling her name (I know, don't chase but she wasn't planning to stop and come to me anyway, I mainly wanted to try to keep her in sight) and she turned into a cul de sac rather than heading on towards the road. So that stopped her and I was able to catch her and thread Timber"s lead through her collar rings to get her back to her owner and his other greyhound.

If T had chosen our normal route; if I hadn't been delayed; if I hadn't been able to keep up with her; if she hadn't turned into the cul de sac it could all have been so much worse. He has only just started letting her off lead, the field is pretty much enclosed apart from the entry gate and from her previous recall he decided to go for it, but that young lady is going to be on lead from now on!

A series of very fortunate events @JoanneF! I’m glad it all worked out the right way :)

What a great tale! And well done for reuniting the greyhound with her owner :)
