Did a member of your family simply arrive home unexpectedly with the new family member?

(Thankfully, never happened to me, as I love preparing and going to see the pup or dog)

Great question @Wotho

Dennis was kind of a surprise.

When our last lab died my dad said no more dogs! I think it was such a sad experience towards the end that we were all very broken hearted and couldn't face starting it all over again.
Quite a few years later (we tried asking him all of the time still) my mum and myself saw an advert in the local pet shop for labrador puppies and they were only in the next village. We both thought we'd give it a go and ask dad again.
The phone call went something like:

me: Hi dad, ummmm me and mum have seen an advert for labrador puppies can we go and see them?

dad: No, we're not getting a dog

me: please dad we really want one

dad: No.

me: jeeez you're so horrible! (moody teenager at the time)

Then about 10 minutes later I received a text saying ' Go on then!'

That afternoon we went over to see the puppies and a few hours later we had chosen our boy Dennis.

The best decision ever!

As I've grown up and moved out Dennis has stayed with me. He's still our family dog and spends lots of time with the rest of the family.

My OH was dead set against it but I'd been chipping away at them. We were having drinks with friends who were in the process of adopting one and there was the tiniest crack - "Maybe when we move next year".

Well that was more than enough. Puppy hunt started then and there and he was presented with a fait accompli. He knows when he's beaten ;) and he adores Harri.

well sort of because I walked into one of our surrounding areas of rural spain and found a group of 4 schnauzers.... then I contacted the animal rescue and they said that they couldn't find a home for the only bitch so I took her!
