Hi There,

I'm new to any type of pet forum. This is my dog Stan, he is 10 and puts the 57' in the Heinz 57! Full on lovable mongrel.

He is a lovely dog, but with one thing he malts like a Yeti in spring, worse that labrador / seasonal GS malts etc. But he malts all of the time (We have gone through many hoovers) and its relentless.

Recently his malting has become a bit of a handful and causing my son (22 months) & partner to get allery symptoms.

I'm wondering if any of your lovely folk have any malt hacks? I'm open to anytihng to get this undercontrol because of the health impact its causing. I know i'm not the only person in the world with a heavy malter/shedder and would be grateful for any advice.

Thanks in Advnace

Rach

If he doesn't have a double coat, the Furminator gets good reviews. But it can't be used on double coated breeds.

Hi @Rach_Treehugger - Ah I feel your pain!! I have a serial malter who malts all year round! I'm afraid I haven't found any good hacks though :-(

Sometimes I feel I could just keep brushing and brushing and it will never stop!

I will do some research!

I Think I just replied ot you on another thread - what type of dog do you have josie?

I have a black Labrador! HAIRS everywhere constantly :eek::eek:

luckily we don't have the issue you are facing with allergies... can they take antihistamines?

I'm trying to avoid doping up my son & partner on a daily basis!

Best get the hoover out then! I looked after a black lab and yes ...they malt and then some! Stan is worse, but not as big as a lab - more collie sized.

Welcome to the forum. I hope you find a workable solution.

Stan is a handsome old fella'! I see a possibility of a couple breeds in him....but Rat Terrier kind of sticks out to me....I see of course more than that, but maybe a possibility to start!

FURminator deShedding Tool for Dogs – this is a great tool.
You could add a tablespoon of olive oil to your dog’s food every day.
You can also add Molasses (sticky treacle) to the dog food.
Brush and bathe your dog regularly.
Also some air purifiers work on reducing shedding.

Hope it helps! :)
Just a few tips!!
