Has anyone else got any dog treat recipes?

One of my simple favorites to make is : Chicken or other meat of choice, whizzed up with a blender, add 1 free range egg and rice flour, enough to make it kind of cookie dough/pastry consistency. Then flatten into a baking tray, and bake on around gas mark 4 or 5 until they look cooked, golden brown( maybe 15/20 mins), cut into squares and share with dogs that have been watching your every move in the kitchen! Can be frozen too.
Sorry I can't be more specific with amounts because I just throw it together usually, and chuck it in the oven but sure you'll get the idea! Dogs love them, especially some older dogs that maybe lacking in the tooth department and can't do chewy chews anymore and it is simple...:)

I have a similar recipe for liver cake.

A pack of liver (supermarket packs are usually about 500 grams)
About 250 grams of flour - I use gluten free as some dogs are gluten intolerant
1 egg
A slosh of olive oil or salmon oil for a glossy coat (optional)

Cut the liver into pieces and use a hand blender to blitz it with the egg until it's a sloppy mess. Stir in the oil if using and the flour. It still should be a sloppy mess.

Turn into a parchment lined baking tray measuring about 6"x9". It shold be about an inch deep.

Bake at 170 degrees for about 15 minutes until a knife comes out clean.

When it's cold, cut into kit kat finger sized pieces - half them again for a smaller dog - and freeze them in a freezer bag. They freeze in separate pieces so you can take out one at a time and break into smaller pieces for training.

Dogs love it, it has no sugar, salt or other nasties and lasts for weeks. It also is cheap to make - a recent survey showed some dog treats to be more epensive, ounce for ounce, than fillet steak!

Other good additions to basic recipes are coconut oil, turmeric (organic turmeric with a little black pepper is supposed to have health benefits) and ground star anise, which gives an aniseed smell that dogs often love.

I really should do some more dog-treat baking. The last time I made liver cake I didn't puree it enough and the flour still had lumps in, so it was so crumbly it just turned into powder in my treat bag:oops: Jasper still liked it though!

have a look at this one :)
Chicken Spinach Mutt Muffins

had a look at that thanks, might try that one at the weekend. I've used Soopa before to add to my old boys dinner and he really likes it!

I have some liver and cod in the freezer I'd like to turn into dog biscuits... but I hardly ever use eggs so don't want to buy a box of six. Do you think if I just pureed the meat, mix with flour and maybe add some peanut butter till it's the right consistency, roll it out, cut it out and baked it it would work? Or I could get a banana and/or coconut oil and add that to bind it?

Should do - pastry is just flour and water at its most basic. The egg will just add some extra nutritional value
