Hi,

I was wondering if anyone knows of good dog food brands. One for a puppy and one for adults. At the minute we have Doris on Simpsons Premium dry puppy food and it’s a good brand but sometimes she won’t eat it, Olive is on Harrington’s grain-free brand dry as she can get flaky skin.

They also get occasional wet dog food such as – Lilly’s kitchen, Butchers, and natures menu.

I googled UK’s best dog food and it and royal canine comes up as I know it’s not a good one.

Thanks in advance :)

As recommended by @JoanneF, we use Gentle - www.gentledogfood.co.uk. Not sure if it's suitable for puppies, but a quick look at the website will tell you. Our dog absolutely loves the stuff, and I can recommend their sample pack too as it contains lots of goodies for the price.

I use Canagan small breed. A bit more expensive than some brands. As a puppy he started on Royal Canin but the adult version of that led to vomiting. As did every other food we tried. He has a very small amount of Applawse pate added.
Chicken occasionally and sometimes fresh salmon when we can get it

By all means reserch and look for the best quality food you can afford but remember your dog has to eat it. When the vet wanted us to put Murphy on a hypoallergenic diet she prescribed a super diet food with a price tag to match ..He turned his nose up and didnt eat for 3 days.

He has never been a fan of dry food so in the end we cut it from his diet altogether and he is on a fresh food diet now which I have to say is working really well. His coat is great, he has gained a bit of weight, his poop problems have cleared up and he isnt itching anymore.
So just because the packet says its good, and the price tag makes you think it should be good, it doesnt always mean its best for your dog.

I have a freezer full of premium dog food Harri won't eat and the local rescue centre has inherited bags of kibble from me...

At the moment he's eating the Nature's Menu sachets with great enthusiasm. They wouldn't be my first choice as they do have some grains but they are 4.5* according to all about dog food and he will eat them which is what matters.

He will eat Canagan kibble if it's stuffed into some sort of novelty feeder but not if it's in his food bowl. I'm not too worried as I'm not a great fan of kibble and I'd rather he had a less processed diet but needs must.

So, I have had a look and I would love to put Olive and Doris on a raw diet, but I would also like something simple like kibble/wet. Has anyone tried Butternut Box? Has Dennis tried Butternut Box @Josie? What did he think about it? I know many people on here have said Orijen dog food, is that a good brand? Has anyone tried BETA?

Butternut Box is lovely - I switched Harri on to it at 3 months old, he loved it and he really thrived. They have fabulous customer service too.

Harri will just not eat raw (other than chicken wings!)

@Caro Perry, I was on the Butternut Box website and it wont let me build a box, but i will try again in around 24hours and see if it works then.

Dennis really liked it. You can tell also that it’s very good quality.

The only annoying thing I would say is the packaging. What I do is tip the fridge meat into a tuboware container but that’s only Because Dennis doesn’t need a whole packet with every meal

Wow over £3,50 a day for Murphy we buy lamb etc from a dog meat supplier it comes frozen and is much much cheaper than that..

I used one of those Lakeland Klippit things to reseal between meals.

I've used Lily's Kitchen before I've used Simspsons wet food before, but that was for kitty. Went down really well though.

I have used Lily's kitchen before, I bought Olive some more and it gave her a bad tummy. Doris eats anything and is fine.

I hope everyone will support this answer. I have tried numerous no. of dog foods for my dog tuffy. He is pretty much old and I have to care more for him.One day I got to know that most of the brands are using D-4 meat which i read in an article that these d-4 meats are produced from dead and disabled animals.
I would prefer you to give him home made food it will definitely help him to grow better and healthier.Rest upon you.
