Hi!

I've been offered a new job similar to what I do now, but in London, and with much more pay which of course nobody would complain about! I'm more than happy to commute to work and back, but I'm not to sure about my golden retriever Pippa. I was wondering what you would do in this situation? The new job would be an extra £600p/m, won't change my taxes at all (calculated here and here), but would mean I'm not at home as often because slightly different hours and the need to commute. I can imagine my wage would still be up even if I got a dog sitter in for a few hours in the evening, but that's just not the same as really being there and I know I'd feel guilty.

Would you take it?

And now... Pippa!

I left London 28 years ago and no pay offer could convince me to go back

How long is the commute ? Sometimes it’s not all about money ...although it’s nice to have a bit extra :D to me it’s quality of life :)

Yeah id worry about what kind of commute and how long. the fact that i dont have a long one frees up alot of time in my day (including let me sleep in longer AND take bax for longer walks in the am and pm when there's light) Also ive heard horror stories about london traffic so consider your own stress while driving.

Is moving to a 'nice' bit of London (i.e. without continual noise and high pollution levels, and with somewhere good to walk Pippa), an option? Would the commute be by car or train/underground? Personally, a long commute would be a deal-breaker for me unless I could sit on public transport and have something to occupy me, like dealing with work emails or reading a book.

As others have said, quality of life is more important than money.
