Hi all. My puppy buddy is 9 months old but the last couple of days he has been very lethargic and is also rubbing his face/head along either the carpet or ground he is also shaking/trembling 1st thing in the morning. Any ideas???

Have you given him any flea medication recently?

I'd take him to the vet's - chances are it's nothing to worry about but it should be checked out. We can suggest possible causes, but can't replace vet advice.

Do let us know how he gets on.

The vet asap - puppies are harder to diagnose yourself because you haven't had the years of experience with them. Do get him checked out.

Vet can't find anything wrong he's still trembling just wanting to sleep all the time and dragging his head/ face along carpet or ground in really worried I've to try n get urine sample xx

The poor lad - did the vet take a blood sample, or did he think urine sample was sufficient to be going on with?

That's really worrying for you! But if you're still concerned then you should take him back soon- or ask for more tests. Something seems to be wrong and the quicker you find out what the better.

Yes he gets it every month

The reason I asked is that sounds very like Harri after his second dose of a monthly oral flea treatment. Unfortunately I didn't make the connection at the time. If your vet doesn't find any other explanation then it's worth bearing in mind.

I know I was worried sick - it's awful when they are ill. I swear I worry more about my dog than I did about the children. They seem so little and helpless.

Here's hoping they get to the bottom of it soon

My friends pup had a reaction to the monthly flea treatments after 6 mths ....

Vet couldn't find anything wrong but he seems to be on the up now so fingers crossed he's getting over whatever was wrong

He has been getting flea and worming every month since we got him do you think it would just affect him now?

That's good to hear - it'd be interesting to see if he reacts similarly the next time he has his flea treatment. Though in your place I'm wondering if I would avoid that flea treatment to be on the safe side. (You might want to Google for side effects to the type you use - it might give you an indication of if it's likely to be a reaction and if so, if a second reaction could actually be dangerous.)

Ok thank you for the advice I will look into that x

Yes it can. There are reports of dogs being affected after using them for months. Harri also recovered spontaneously as the pesticide was metabolised by him. Google the brand name of whatever it is you are using. If it’s Nexguard you’ll find plenty.
