Story of rescured Indonesian Dog - Where are yours from? :)

Dear all,

I''d like to share this story of success with you guys.

It's about Hope, a former Indonesian street dog which we found in April this year. She was lying next to a dusty and noisy street and was - as per the vets - close to death.

We have also made a video of her recovery and transformation which is on Youtube:

We collected her with a local vet and organised together with an organisation a transfer to another vet to have her checked.

She was weak and had not many hair left. She finally got all the necessary treatments she needed and built up some trust to us and the other humans involved.

We arragned for a new home she could stay, but the new "owner" was not really reliable and we arranged for a transfer to europe and she's now finally with us.

When we found her she was roughly 4 month old and her weight was less than 5 kilo. She's now at 15 kg and feels fine in her new environment ....

Her transformation is just unbelievable ....

What a fantastic story and transformation :) Well done on giving this frail creature a chance and saving her life. My dog is also a rescue dog, but from Croatia. Whilst we don’t know his story in detail, he had been mistreated by humans and attacked by other dogs. We’ve had him two years now, and whilst he’s wary of other dogs and many other things, he’s s very friendly and loving dog and we wouldn’t be without him.

I'm glad you have given him a new chance....

Our dog loves playing and socialsing with others but she is still quite afraid of humans and keeps on barking, no matter in which situation ... we hope that she gets more trust when she understands that humans here are no danger to her (at least when she's with us :) )
 
Murphy is a lucky dog and has been loved since day one.

Sadly our previous dogs had not had such good starts, they were rescues who had been beaten, kicked,starved and shot at. But the important part..... They all grew old with us in a house filled with love, laughter, with good food and great walks just as every dog deserves..

4 of mine are rescue. ....murphy from Ireland a 12 wk pup ....Victor a stray from county durham a failed worker ..beaten and kicked by a man he still has trust issues with certain men he is petrified at times this is 8 yrs later...Tom 1 yr old a jrt stray in london ...Sid 14 wks an unsold working pup with lots of issues mainly fear aggression. ..but he is getting better 4 yrs later ....
It takes time and alot of guts to take on dogs with issues but it's worth it ...i walk 430am every morning so that Victor can have a lovely 90 mins offlead walk /run without bumping into strange men especially in fluorescent clothing ...

I'm so happy she now has a lovely and loving home with you, she looks so happy now, a different dog!
Luckily my dog didn't have such an awful start, I got her from a hobby breeder and I've had her since she was 11 weeks old, she's amazing! :D This is Roxy.

I love hearing about rescue dogs nothing better than happy endings :)
My border collie Zak was a rescue he was thrown onto the streets with his sister as a baby, he was taken in at Carlisle resue centre and we adopted him best thing i ever did he was a amazing boy x we bought Marley from a breeder who kept him and 3 other dogs in a small crate all day they couldn't move and Marley was covered in sores. We couldn't leave him like that. She was eventually shut down.
 
I haven't rescued any myself directly, Teddy is my first dog as an adult. When the children are a lot older, I would love to rescue a dog. When I was a child, about 7 or 8. My Mum rescued a dog. I still don't know how she did it. She was a single mum to 4 children, bought a house, had a million jobs to keep everything ticking along and we already had a dog, 3 cats and a few rabbits. My Auntie told my Mum about a dog locally that was going to be put down because the family were "having a baby" aka couldn't be bothered with her anymore. They were also alcoholics and just used to let the dog roam the streets at night when they let her out drunk. My Mum didn't really want to add more to her plate but couldn't face her being put down. The family had no inclination of finding her a home or rescue.

That is how we ended up with Toffee. She was a young adult when we acquired her. A lab/ husky/ alsation mix I think and had no training at all but lovely nature. She had to be house trained like a puppy. And constantly tried to get out of the garden and till the day she died never stopped scavenging for food.
 
Well Done all you amazing humans for giving these babies a second chance.

What heartwarming stories. So thankful that these babies got the homes they deserved. I don't understand how anyone can be cruel to animals.

We have just rescued two pups from Cyprus. We don't know too much about them but they were dumped in a box outside a rescue at around 6 weeks of age - I guess they are the lucky ones to have been left somewhere safe. Hopefully they didn't experience any trauma aside from leaving their mum. But we'll never know. We've had them for 2 weeks now.

We've had two traumatised rescues- our lab x whippet we took out of a neighbours house where he's sat for 14 hours with his alcoholic owner's dead body. Our current corgi x was an absolute basket case and had been used a football. Both dog- and I think all rescue dogs- try to take any opportunity to relate to people and make the best of things. Only fear stops them sometimes. Good luck with yours- it a great thing to do.

Thanks Josie :) They're doing great, Kate (black and white) is the more confident of the two and hopefully she'll teach her sister (Emma) that she doesn't have to be scared of strange people and situations.

Our biggest problem is loose poo :( They're back on a chicken and rice diet but it's not making much of a difference. The last couple of mornings one of them has pooed in the crate before we have come downstairs. This is despite going out for a wee at 1.30am and us coming down about 6am. We're thinking of removing their dinner and feeding more for breakfast and lunch. I know they're supposed to be on 3 meals a day but need to get their toileting under control.

Hi WDs I hope your puppies are fine and settling in well. I'm new to the forum. We are adopting from a shelter in Cyprus (fingers crossed as we are awaiting homecheck). Did your dogs fly directing to the UK or was it fly/Shuttle? We've been told it costs c£500 to fly a dog to UK (has to come as cargo), and the rescue shelter don't get any of this. I'm just trying to find a way that's more economical so I can give a decent donation on top of the transport cost. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks.
