Any advice on why Dogs see me as a Giant Toy

Hi Everyone,

This one is a bit weird but I really can’t explain it any other way. Literally every dog I meet see’s me as their best play mate ever!

I have a lovely Patterpug which of course never leaves me alone, wants to play 24/7. My wife’s brothers dog is exactly the same except maybe a bit more eager about it.

Being that they are family dogs you half expect it. What I can’t get my head around is completely one off/strangers dogs, they are all the same if I am out walking, the stranger dog simply come up trying to touse me to play or brings me their ball instead of their owner, even got so bad once that I had to wait at the entrance of the woods till the owner found us because the dog followed me all the way around.

What has confounded me even more is highly aggressive dogs that generally hate strangers give me one look them bring me their toys and want me to play. This is totally surreal.

I’ve come to the conclusion that I either smell really good to dogs and they love Brute deodorant and body wash. I have “one” of those faces?. I’d like to say I dress weird or something but I don’t I am your average normal guy.

Any ideas or am I just cursed/blessed?

This reminded me of an old Dr Joe’s song - “How come my dog don’t bark when you come around”

On behalf of all other owners who don’t measure up in their dog’s eyes - thank you for waiting at the entrance, i’ve been on the other side many times, it’s frustrating enough to see your dog following another person. Having to go and look and search adds insult to injury. And believe me, some such folks just move on without giving another thought that someone’s dog is following, may lose her humans eventually, or that the humans may not be able to easily catch up... or maybe just not being aware.

In any case - you ought to be a good person to have this effect. It’s a blessing. Perhaps eventually you will find a way to use it.

The strangest thing I've seen is when a teenage lad appeared in the woods where a lot of dogs are walked. All the dogs in the area congregated around him, seated in a semicircle, like children at storytime. One by one, he gave each dog a treat, and that dog would then wander off. Even my dog, whose normal idea of fair treating is 'One for the collie, one for me, one for the setter, one for me, one for the Westie, one for me...', fell into line. The owners just stood there with dropped jaws, wondering what just happened.

And then there was the guy who insisted on petting my dog's head, standing over him and getting really animated, ignoring me when I said that he doesn't like that, and he's very likely to flip and bite him. Next thing I know the two of them are running round a clump of bushes playing chase

You could try using different toiletries and/or not washing for a while? It'd be really interesting to know if it made a difference!

My dogs birthday is coming up...do you take doggy party bookings.

Oh I saw someone do this once - all the dogs just sat there including Harri. I would love to know how they do it!

BUT the serious response to your question is body language- that's the dog's universal language. Something you do is saying: come and get me! Which is good IMO.

Other than your forum name, @TheHumanDogToy (), perhaps your body language is being interpreted by dogs as welcoming. Just guessing really, but I'd be interested if you ever get to the bottom D) of this.
